John Williams was honored with the Saturn Award last night at the 42nd annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the prize in the Best Music category for his score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The other nominated composers were Ennio Morricone (The Hateful Eight), Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road), Johann Johansson (Sicario), M.M. Keeravani (Baahubali: The Beginning) and Fernando Velazquez (Crimson Peak). Williams’ score for the seventh Star Wars episode is available on Walt Disney Records. The composer has previously received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for his work on the film.

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films has announced the nominations for this year’s Saturn Awards. The awards are honoring last year’s best sci-fi, fantasy, and horror films, as well as television programs. The winners will be announced at the 42st Annual Saturn Awards ceremony in June in Burbank. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films has announced the nominations for this year’s Saturn Awards. The winners will be announced at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards ceremony on June 25.

Frank Ilfman Wins Saturn Award for ‘Big Bad Wolves’
Frank Ilfman was honored with a Saturn Award last night at the 40th annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the prize in the Best Music category for his score for the Israeli thriller Big Bad Wolves, which was also recognized in the Best International Film category, and accepted his award in person. The other nominated composers were Danny Elfman (Oz the Great and Powerful), John Williams (The Book Thief), Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Now You See Me) and Howard Shore (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug). Ilfman’s score for the thriller, which was released in the U.S. earlier this year by Magnolia Pictures, is available on MovieScore Media and Kronos Records. Michael Giacchino Wins Saturn Award for ‘Super 8’
Michael Giacchino was honored with a Saturn Award tonight at the 38th annual Saturn Awards, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the award in the Best Music category for his score for last year’s Super 8, which also received awards for director J.J. Abrams and actor Joel Courtney in the Best Performance by a Younger Actor category. Giacchino was also nominated for his music for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The other nominated composers were Howard Shore (Hugo), Alan Silvestri (Captain America: The First Avenger) and John Williams (The Adventures of Tintin, War Horse).
