Frank Ilfman was honored with a Saturn Award last night at the 40th annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the prize in the Best Music category for his score for the Israeli thriller Big Bad Wolves, which was also recognized in the Best International Film category, and accepted his award in person. The other nominated composers were Danny Elfman (Oz the Great and Powerful), John Williams (The Book Thief), Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Now You See Me) and Howard Shore (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug). Ilfman’s score for the thriller, which was released in the U.S. earlier this year by Magnolia Pictures, is available on MovieScore Media and Kronos Records. Weekly Film Music Roundup (January 17, 2014)
Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action comedy Ride Along directed by Tim Story and starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen and Laurence Fishburne. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Revolution, Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief) who previously scored Story’s Think Like a Man and will also score its sequel. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week and a CD version will be coming out on January 28 by Varese Sarabande. Also opening wide is the action thriller Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit written and directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner, as well as Branagh himself. The director’s regular musical collaborator Patrick Doyle (Thor, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Sense and Sensibility) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week and a CD version will be coming out in a few weeks. ‘Big Bad Wolves’ Soundtrack Announced
MovieScore Media and Kronos Records will release a soundtrack album for the Israeli thriller Big Bad Wolves. The album features the film’s original music composed by Frank Ilfman (Nemesis Game). The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Big Bad Wolves is written and directed by Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado and stars Lior Ashkenazi, Tzahi Grad, Rotem Keinan and Dov Glickman. The movie centers on a series of murders that puts the lives of three men on a collision course – the father of the latest victim, a vigilante police detective and the main suspect in the killings. The thriller premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and was picked for up for domestic distribution by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing label.
