The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has approved a new rule for the 85th Academy Awards in the Best Original Song category, in which there will now be five guaranteed nominees. According to the Academy, “all voting members of the music branch will receive a reminder list of works submitted in the category and a DVD copy of the song clips. The details of the soundtrack release for the new comic book movie adaptation of Dredd have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Paul Leonard-Morgan (Limitless). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 3, 2012 and physically on September 10 (overseas only) by Metropolis Movie Music. Mychael Danna has composed the score for the upcoming epic mini-series World Without End. The series based on Ken Follett’s best-selling novel is directed by Michael Caton-Jones and stars Cynthia Nixon, Ben Chaplin, Peter Firth, Charlotte Riley, Rupert Evans, Nora von Waldstaetten, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Tom Weston-Jones, Megan Follows and Sarah Gadon. The eight-hour thriller is the follow up to the 2010 mini-series The Pillars of the Earth (scored by Trevor Morris) and is set over 150 years after the Pillars events during the start of the Hundred Years’ War and the outbreak of the Black Death. Scott Starrett has been hired to score the new FOX drama The Mob Doctor. The show created by Josh Berman and Rob Wright stars Jordana Spiro as a doctor torn between the physician’s Hippocratic Oath and her own family’s mob ties. William Forsythe, Jaime Lee Kirchner, James Carpinello, Jesse Lee Soffer and Zach Gilford are co-starring. Michael Dinner (Sons of Anarchy, The Wonder Years) has directed the pilot episode and is executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Berman and Wright. Nick Urata has taken over scoring duties on the indie drama What Maisie Knew. The film is directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel (The Deep End, Bee Season) and stars Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard, Steve Coogan, Onata Aprile, Joanna Vanderham, Diana Garcia and Joel Garland. The movie based on a novel by Henry James and follows a 6-year old girl who is caught up in the bitter divorce of her art dealer father and her rock star mother. Charles Weinstock (Fracture) & William Teitler (The Polar Express) and Daniel Crown & Daniela Taplin Lundberg (The Kids Are All Right) are producing the Red Crown Productions project. Anton Sanko to Score ‘Nurse 3-D’

Anton Sanko is scoring the upcoming horror thriller Nurse 3-D. The movie is directed by Doug Aarniokoski (The Day, Highlander Endgame) and stars Paz De La Huerta (Boardwalk Empire) as a nurse who uses her sexuality to indulge a sinister side that finds her punishing dishonest men. Katrina Bowden, Corbin Bleu and Judd Nelson are co-starring in the film. David Loughery (Lakeview Terrace, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier) has written the screenplay and Marc Bienstock is producing the Lionsgate Entertainment production. Sanko has most recently scored the horror thriller The Possession starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick for the studio. New Limited ‘Smallville’ Soundtrack Edition Released

La-La Land Records has released a new limited soundtrack album for the superhero TV series Smallville starring Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack and Kristin Kreuk. The album features selections from the show’s score from the first six seasons composed by Mark Snow (The X-Files) and from the final four seasons composed by Louis Febre (Swimfan). The 2-CD set includes the 2010 soundtrack download-only release, as well as a second disc featuring over 70 minutes of previously unreleased music from the show. Soul Temple Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the action adventure The Man With the Iron Fists. The film’s soundtrack is executive produced by RZA who also directed the movie. The album features music by such artists as the Wu-Tang Clan, Kanye West, The Black Keys, Corrine Bailey Rae and Pusha. The soundtrack will be released on October 23, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label is also planning a separate album featuring RZA’s original score from the film. Audika Records will be releasing a soundtrack for the indie drama Keep the Lights On. The album features the film’s songs by late New York City musician Arthur Russell. The soundtrack will be released on September 4, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from all 9 tracks on the album can be checked out below. Keep the Lights On is directed by Ira Sachs (Married Life) and stars Thure Lindhardt and Zachary Booth as two men who struggle through love, addiction and friendship. Deborah Lurie has taken over scoring duties on the teen comedy Fun Size. The film marks the directorial feature debut of Josh Schwartz (The O.C.) and stars Victoria Justice, Chelsea Handler, Riki Lindhome, Johnny Knoxville, Josh Pence, Thomas Mann and Jane Levy. The movie follows a teenage girl who loses her brother after being forced to take him out for trick-or-treating on Halloween. Schwartz is producing the Anonymous Content/Fake Empire production with Stephanie Savage, Bard Dorros and David Kanter.
