Mercury Records has released a soundtrack for the British mini-series Broadchurch. The soundtrack EP features the original score from the series composed by Ólafur Arnald (Another Happy Day). Broadchurch written and created by Chris Chibnall (United, Torchwood) stars David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Will Mellor and Arthur Darvill. The mini-series about a small British community that comes under scrutiny and suspicion in the wake of a boy’s death premiered on ITV in the UK last month. Sony Masterworks will release the official soundtrack album for M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming sci-fi action adventure After Earth. The album features the film’s original score composed by James Newton Howard who has written the music for all of the director’s score in the past 14 years, including The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village. The soundtrack will be released on June 4, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details. After Earth starring Will Smith and Jaden Smith follows a teenager Kitai Raige and his legendary father who get stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape following a crash landing. Federico Jusid is the composer of the upcoming action sequel 300: Rise of an Empire. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for the 1965 WWII action adventure Von Ryan’s Express directed by Marc Robson and starring Frank Sinatra and Trevor Howard. The music is composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. Also featured on the CD is the composer’s score for the 1968 cop thriller The Detective directed by Gordon Douglas and starring Frank Sinatra, Lee Remick and Robert Duvall. Atli Örvarsson has taken over scoring duties on the fantasy adventure The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The film is directed by Harald Zwart and stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. The movie is based on the first book of the bestselling Young Adult book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and follows a teen who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. Jessica Postigo has adapted the material for the screen. Michael Giacchino to Score Brad Bird’s ‘Tomorrowland’

Michael Giacchino confirmed during a Q&A at a concert featuring the world premiere performance of his Star Trek score performed live to projection in Lucerne, Switzerland this weekend that he is attached to score Brad Bird’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland. The film is set to star George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but according to Hitfix, the movie is supposed to follow a “teenage girl, a genius middle-aged manand a pre-pubescent girl robot who attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth”. Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) is writing the screenplay with Bird based on a concept by himself and Jeff Jensen and is also producing the project with Bird. Tomorrowland will mark the composer’s fourth collaboration with Bird following Pixar’s The Incredibles & Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Read the rest of this entry »
