Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Other Woman directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton, Taylor Kinney and Nicki Minaj. Aaron Zigman (Bridge to Tarabithia, The Proposal) who previously collaborated with the directors on such movies as John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper has composed the film’s original score. Also opening wide this weekend is the horror thriller The Quiet Ones directed by John Pogue and starring Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Olivia Cooke. The film’s original music is composed and performed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Noizeby Slade and T.Rex and three original Radio Caroline jingles from the 70s. ‘Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Music will release a soundtrack album for the 3D-animated musical Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return. The album features the songs from the film written by Bryan Adams, Tift Merritt, Jim Vallance, Jim Dooley & Mike Himelstein and performed by the movie’s voice cast including Lea Michele, Martin Short, Hugh Dancy and Megan Hilty. Also included are selections from the film’s original score composed by Toby Chu (Covert Affairs, Burn Notice). The soundtrack will be released on May 6, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is directed by Daniel St. Pierre & Will Finn and also features the voices of Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Kelsey Grammer, Oliver Platt, Patrick Stewart and Bernadette Peters. The movie is based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum and finds Dorothy waking to post-tornado Kansas, only to be whisked back to Oz to try to save her old friends from a devious new villain. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Postman Pat: The Movie’ Soundtrack Details

Polydor will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature Postman Pat: The Movie. The album features the songs from the film by the film’s voice cast including Ronan Keating who provides the title character’s singing voice and Rupert Grint. Also included is Peter Gabriel’s Big Time, The Saturdays’ cover of Please Mr Postman, Jessie J’s It’s My Party, The Wanted’s We Own the Night and more songs. Also featured is a suite from the movie’s original score composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Over the Hedge, Bee Movie). The soundtrack will be released in the UK on May 19, 2014. Postman Pat: The Movie is directed by Mike Disa (Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil) and also features the voices of Stephen Mangan, Jim Broadbent, Kate Winslet and David Tennant. The film is based on the TV series of the same title and follows Postman Pat as he is facing a moral crisis and enters a national TV talent show competition. Read the rest of this entry »

Joseph Bishara Scoring ‘Annabelle’

Joseph Bishara is composing the music for the upcoming horror thriller Annabelle. The film is a spin-off of last year’s The Conjuring and stars Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Alfre Woodard, Eric Ladin and Brian Howe. The movie is directed by John Leonetti (The Butterfly Effect 2) who served as the cinematographer on The Conjuring and explores the haunted doll Annabelle, which was featured in the hit horror film. Gary Dauberman has written the screenplay and Peter Safran (Buried, Vampire Sucks) and James Wan (Insidious, Saw) are producing the New Line Cinema production. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Strike Back’ Soundtrack Announced

Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the British action series Strike Back. The album features selections from the original score of show’s third and fourth season composed by Scott Shields. Also included is the show’s theme song Short Change Hero by the British rock group The Heavy. The soundtrack will be released on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Strike Back based on the novel of the same name by former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier Chris Ryan follows the actions of Section 20, a secretive branch of the British Defense Intelligence service (DI), which operate several high risk, priority missions throughout the globe. Jónsi and Alex to Score WGN America’s ‘Manhattan’

Sigur Rós front man Jónsi and Alex Somers have been hired to score the upcoming WGN America original series Manhattan. The show is created by Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex) and stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Daniel Stern, Ashley Zukerman and Rachel Brosnahan. The drama is set against the backdrop of the clandestine mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb in Los Alamos, New Mexico and follows the brilliant but flawed scientists and their families. Shaw is also executive producing the Skydance TV, Tribune Studios and Lionsgate TV production with David Ellison & Dana Goldberg (World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness), Marcy Ross and Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Sports Night) who also directed the pilot episode. John Powell to Take Break from Film Music to Compose Concert Music

Variety is reporting that John Powell will be taking another sabbatical from film music following the completion of his score for this summer’s animated sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2. Instead, he will be writing a 45-minute oratorio to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of World War I. The piece, entitled Moltke will feature a libretto by artist-writer Michael Petry and is about the aide-de-camp to Prussia’s Kaiser Wilhelm II who was instrumental in making crucial decisions, before and during the war. The oratorio is expected to premiere next January with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Westminster Cathedral in London. In addition, Powell will also be expanding a piece he composed in early 2012 with composer Gavin Greenaway for a Petry installation at the Palm Springs Art Museum called The Dilemma about the biblical history of men and women. ‘In My Dreams’ Soundtrack Released

Momentum RLP Records has released a soundtrack album for the Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie In My Dreams. The album features the film’s original music composed by William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Tale of Despereaux, Tin Cup) who recorded the score at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. In My Dreams is directed by Kenny Leon and stars Katherine McPhee, Mike Vogel and JoBeth Williams. The movie follows a bridge architect and a restaurant owner who throw a penny into the local fountain fabled for bringing lovers together and start having dreams about each other. ‘The Railway Man’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the drama The Railway Man. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Australia, Legend of the Guardians). The soundtrack will be released physically on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Railway Man is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and stars Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgård and Hiroyuki Sanada. The movie follows a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II and discovers decades later that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive. Alex Heffes Scoring ‘What We Did on Our Holiday’

Alex Heffes is currently recording his score for the upcoming British comedy What We Did on Our Holiday. The film is written and directed by Andy Hamilton & Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered) and stars Rosamund Pike, David Tennant, Billy Connolly, Ben Miller and Amelia Bullmore. The movie follows a couple who tries to keep their impending divorce secret from their extended family during a trip to one of their father’s birthday party. David M. Thompson (The Awakening) and Dan Winch are producing the BBC Films and Origin Pictures production.
