Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Saving Mr. Banks. The album features the film’s original score composed by Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo). Also included are the songs featured in the film performed by the film’s cast from Disney’s classic film Marry Poppins composed by the movie’s music consultant Richard Sherman and Robert Sherman. The soundtrack will be released as a regular edition and 2-CD deluxe edition, which features a number of demos and original songs from Mary Poppins on December 10, 2013. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for Spike Lee’s upcoming mystery thriller Oldboy. The album features the film’s original score composed by Roque Banos (Evil Dead, The Machinist, Sexy Beast). The soundtrack will be released physically on December 10, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full album details will be posted on this site within the next couple of weeks. Oldboy is based on Chan-wook Park’s acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and stars Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley. La-La Land Records has announced a soundtrack release for Gus Van Sant’s 2011 drama Restless. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman who has previously scored the director’s features Milk, Psychoand To Die For and also collaborated with Van Sant on last year’s Promised Land. The soundtrack is limited to 2000 copies and is now available to order on La-La Land’s official website, where you can also check out audio clips. Restless is produced by Ron and Bryce Dallas Howard and stars Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper. Hans Zimmer’s ‘Days of Thunder’ Score Released

La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere release of the score for the 1990 racing drama Days of Thunder directed by Tony Scott and starring Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Robert Duvall. The music is composed by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, The Dark Knight, Inception, Gladiator) whose other collaborations with the director include True Romance, The Fan and Crimson Tide. The album features the composer’s score for the Paramount Pictures production, including a number of alternate cues, a rock arrangement of the main titles, as well as the song The Last Note of Freedom performed by David Cloverdale. Anton Sanko is composing the score for Amazon’s original series Alpha House. The show is created Academy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Garry Trudeau (A Doonesbury Special) and stars John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark Consuelos, Cynthia Nixon, Amy Sedaris, Wanda Sykes and Julie White. Ed Sheeran has written and recorded the end credits song I See Fire for Peter Jackson’s upcoming fantasy adventure sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The Grammy-nominated and BRIT Award and Ivor Novello Award-winning British singer/songwriter announced his involvement on his Twitter page today. Sheeran plays all the instruments on the track apart from the cello. I See Fire will be released as a single tomorrow, November 5 on iTunes (link will be added later tonight). Sony Masterworks has announced a soundtrack release for NBC’s live broadcast of the classic stage musical The Sound of Music. The album features the studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, including such songs as The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, all of which are composed by Richard Rodgers and feature lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The soundtrack will be released on December 3, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. NBC’s The Sound of Music is a three-hour live production based on the classic Tony Award-winning musical and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg von Trapp, Christian Borle as Max Detweiler and Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader. As no new major scripted TV shows or movies are premiering this week, we are taking a look at a number of shows with new composers this season.
W.G. Snuffy Walden (Friday Night Lights, The West Wing, Under the Dome) has taken over scoring duties this season on ABC’s drama Nashville created by Callie Khouri and starring Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen, Powers Boothe and Sam Palladio. The show’s first season was scored by T Bone Burnett and Keefus Ciancia. Buddy Miller has replaced Burnett as the show’s executive music producer.
