book-of-negroesPremiering tomorrow, February 16, is the BET mini-series The Book of Negroes directed by Clement Virgo and starring Aunjanue Ellis, Cuba Gooding Jr., Louis Gossett Jr., Lyriq Bent, Jane Alexander, Ben Chaplin, Allan Hawco and Greg Bryk. Philip Miller (Catch a Fire, The Girl, Mary and Martha) has composed the project’s original music. The 3-parter is based on the novel by Lawrence Hill and tells the story of Aminata Diallo after her capture and the pain she endured as part of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. ‘Birdman’ Wins Cinema Audio Society Award

cinemaaudiosocietyThe team behind the sound mixing of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman has won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing in the Motion Pictures – Live Action category at last night’s 51st annual Cinema Audio Society Awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Scoring mixer Gustavo Borner, along with production mixer Thomas Varga, re-recording mixers Jon Taylor & Frank A. Montaño, ADR mixer Jason Oliver and foley mixer John Sanacore received the award for the comedy drama starring Michael Keaton and scored by Antonio Sanchez. The other contenders in the category were American Sniper, Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar and Unbroken. In the the Motion Pictures – Animated category, scoring mixer Alan Meyerson received the award as part of the sound mixing team of Disney’s Big Hero 6 (scored by Henry Jackman). James’ bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Marcia Gay Harden, Luke Grimes, Max Martini, Dylan Neal, Eloise Mumford, Rita Ora and Victor Rasuk. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the film by such artists as Annie Lennox, Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, AWOLNATION, Sia & more. antonio-sanchezLast night, Antonio Sanchez performed his original score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s comedy drama Birdman live to picture at ACE Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The jazz drummer who made his film scoring debut on the project was presented to the stage by actor Michael Keaton, who is up for an Oscar for his lead performance in the film. The film based on the novel of the same title by Nicholas Sparks (The NotebookDear John, Message in a Bottle) stars Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Tom Welling, Alexandra Daddario, Maggie Grace and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is set in a small coastal town where a young man ends up pursuing a relationship with his new neighbor, leading to a journey that neither could have foreseen. Bryan Sipe (Demolition) has written the screenplay. kumikoRobot High School will release a soundtrack album for the drama Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter. The album features the film’s original music composed by the electro-indie band The Octopus Project. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 10, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter is directed by David Zellner and stars Rinko Kikuchi. The movie follows a frustrated office lady who becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she’s mistaken for a documentary, fixating on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. The film is directed by Robert Duvall who also stars in the movie alongside James Franco, Josh Hartnett, Luciana Duvall and Adriana Barraza. The movie centers on the impact on a Texas rancher’s family when the Texas Rangers reopen an investigation into a missing person case. Duvall has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Michael Mendelsohn (Rage, I Am Michael) of Patriot Pictures and Rob Carline (Crazy Heart, The Apostle, Assassination Tango).
