mysteries-of-lauraJoey Newman has been hired to score the upcoming NBC drama The Mysteries of Laura. The show is created by Jeff Rake based on the Spanish-language series Los Misterios de Laura and stars Debra Messing, Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso and Janina Gavankar. The series follows the life and relationships of a female NYPD homicide detective who balances her day job with a crazy family life that includes two unruly twin boys and a soon-to-be ex-husband who just can’t seem to sign the divorce paper. McG (Charlie’s AngelsTerminator: Salvation) has directed the pilot episode and also serves as an executive producer on the Warner Bros. face-of-an-angelHarry Escott is reteaming with director Michael Winterbottom on the upcoming drama The Face of an Angel. The movie stars Daniel Bruhl, Kate Beckinsale, Cara Delevingne, Valerio Mastandre, Rosie Fellner, Alistair Petrie and The film follows a troubled filmmaker who is researching a sensational murder trial in Italy. As he sees the victim forgotten in the media frenzy, he is inspired to reconnect with his own daughter. Paul Viragh (AshesSex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) has written the screenplay based on the book Angel Face about the Amanda Knox trial by Barbie Latza Nadeau. Melissa Parmenter (The TripThe Look of Love) is producing the BBC Films production. Escott has previously co-scored Winterbottom’s 2006 documentary The Road to Guantanamo and the 2007 drama A Mighty Heart starring Angelina Jolie with Molly Nyman. Ennio Morricone U.S. Concerts Canceled

ennio-morriconeVariety is reporting that Ennio Morricone‘s concerts in Los Angeles and New York that were set to take place on June 13 & 15, 2014 due to the composer’s “serious health issues”. The events were originally set for this past March, but were postponed due to a back injury as reported earlier this year. The concert at LA Live’s NOKIA Center would have marked Morricone’s first-ever live performance in Los Angeles. The composer of such films as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables and Cinema Paradiso has previously only performed in the U.S. once at a 2007 New York event. crossbonesMateo Messina has been tapped to score the new NBC adventure drama Crossbones. The show is created by Neil Cross (Luther) and stars John Malkovich, Yasmine Al Massri, Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, David Hoflin, Tracy Ifeachor and Chris Perfetti. The series is is set during the golden age of piracy in the 18th Century and centers on legendary pirate Blackbeard who reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreants. Cross is also executive producing the Universal Television production with Walter F. Parkes & Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, Flight, The Ring), Ted Gold (Three Rivers) and Ciaran Donnelly (Vikings, The Tudors). how-to-train-your-dragon-2The details of the soundtrack album for the animated feature sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Powell (The Bourne TrilogyKung Fu PandaShrek) who received his first Oscar nomination for his score for the original 2010 film. Also included is the original song Where No One Goes by Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi. The soundtrack will be released on June 10, 2014 by Relativity Music Group and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is directed by Dean DeBlois and features the voice talent of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

godzillaOpening in most theaters is the monster movie Godzilla directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, The Queen, The Grand Budapest Hotel). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionnaire, 127 Hours) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s songs and score earlier this week. The show is created by Gideon Raff (HomelandThe Killing Floor) and stars Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, Noah Silver, Moran Atias, Anne Winters, Salim Daw, Justin Kirk, Fares Fares,  Jordana Spiro, Mehdi Dehbi and Alice Krige. The drama follows an unassuming American family that is drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Raff is also executive producing the project with  Howard Gordon (24Homeland), Craig Wright (Mr. Peabody & Sherman), Glenn Gordon Caron (MoonlightingMedium), Michael Lehmann (Heathers40 Days and 40 Nights), Peter Noah (The West Wing) and Avi Nir (Homeland). return-to-zeroA soundtrack album has been released for the drama Return to Zero. The album features the film’s original music composed by James T. Sale. Also included is the song Forget the Fall performed by cast members Minnie Driver & Paul Adelstein, as well as songs by Mika Ben Yami and Thunerdikk. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded below. Return to Zero is written and directed by Sean Hanish and stars Minnie Driver, Paul Adelstein, Alfred Molina, Kathy Baker, Connie Nielsen, Andrea Anders and Sarah Jones. The movie is based on a true story and follows a couple who are devastated and break up after enduring a stillbirth but wind up reuniting when the wife becomes pregnant again. The drama will premiere this Saturday, May 17, on Lifetime. da-vincis-demonsSparks & Shadows will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The album features almost 2 hour of music from the original score of the show’s second season composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) who received his first Emmy Award for the series’ main titles theme last year. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A 2-CD collector’s edition will coming out later this year. Audio clips are available after the jump. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring highlights from the music of the first season. Da Vinci’s Demons is created by David S. Goyer and stars Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Elliot Cowan, Blake Ritson and Lara Pulver.
