Premiering tonight in the U.S. is the BBC mini-series The Escape Artist created and written by David Wolstencroft and starring David Tennant, Toby Kebbell, Sophie Okonedo and Ashley Jensen. The drama’s music is composed by Nicholas Hooper (Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). The two-parter about a talented junior barrister who specializes in spiriting people out of tight legal corners will air as part of PBS’ Masterpiece series tonight and on June 22. ‘The Case Against 8’ Soundtrack Released

Cow on the Wall Records has released a soundtrack album for the documentary The Case Against 8. The album features the film’s original music composed by Blake Neely (Arrow, Resurrection, The Mentalist, Life As We Know It). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. The Case Against 8 is directed by Ben Cotner & Ryan White and takes an inside look at the groundbreaking Supreme Court case that overturned Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it won the Best Directing Award and was also shown at the SXSW Film Festival where it received the 2014 Audience Award. Joel McNeely is returning to score the next installment in DisneyToon Studios’ Tinker Bell series, Legend of the NeverBeast. The film is directed by Steve Loter (Kim Possible) and features the voices of Mae Whitman, Angela Bartys, Pamela Adlon, Lucy Liu, Megan Hilty, Raven-Symone and Lucy Hale. The movie follows the animal fairy Fawn who befriends a huge and mysterious creature known as the NeverBeast. McNeely has previously scored the first six movies of the Disney Fairies franchise, including the original Tinker Bell film, as well as Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Pixie Hollow Games, Secret of the Wings and this year’s The Pirate Fairy. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2 directed by Dean DeBlois and featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig. John Powell (The Bourne Trilogy, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Rio) has composed the film’s original music. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the original song Where No One Goes by Jónsi. ‘The Internet’s Own Boy’ Soundtrack Announced

Tone Tiger will release a soundtrack album for the documentary The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Dragonetti (We Are Legions: The Story of the Activists, Father of the Pride). The soundtrack will be released on June 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. The Internet’s Own Boy is directed by Brian Knappenberger and tells the story of programming prodigy and information activist Aaron Swartz, the co-founder of Reddit whose work in social justice and political organizing combined with his aggressive approach to information access that ensnared him in a two year legal battle with the Federal government. Tony Morales is composing the score for the upcoming Lifetime original movie Outlaw Prophet: Warren Jeffs. The film is directed by Gabriel Range (Death of a President) and stars Tony Goldwyn, Martin Landau, Molly Parker and Joey King. The movie tells the story of the fundamentalist Mormon leader who spent more than a year on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List for unlawful flight on charges related to his alleged arrangement of illegal marriages involving underage girls. Range also co-wrote the teleplay with Art Monterastelli (The Hunted), Steve Kornacki (Boardwalk Empire), Alyson Evans and Bryce Kass. Craig Zadan & Neil Meron (Hairspray, The Bucket List, Footloose) are executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Judith Verno (Lizzie Borden Took An Ax). ‘Boyhood’ Soundtrack Details

Nonesuch Records will release a soundtrack album for Richard Linklater’s indie drama Boyhood. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Bob Dylan, Gnarls Barkley, The Flaming Hips, Arcade Fire, Wilco, The Black Keys, Jeff Tweedy, The Hives, Cat Power, Paul McCartnet & Wings and more. The soundtrack will be released on July 8, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Boyhood is written and directed by Richard Linklater and stars Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater and Ethan Hawke. The movie was filmed over 12 years with the same cast and tells a story through the eyes of a child named Maso who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Aaron Zigman has composed the music for the upcoming drama Addicted. The film is directed by Bille Woodruff (Honey, Beauty Shop) and stars Sharon Leal, Boris Kodjoe, Tyson Beckford, Kat Graham and William Levy. The movie is based on the bestselling novel of the same title by Zane and follows a happily married woman with three kids who finds herself satisfying her addiction to sex by sleeping with other men. Christina Welsh and Bernie Barbarash have written the screenplay. Paul Hall (Higher Learning) is producing the project. James Newton Howard to Score Dan Gilroy’s ‘Nightcrawler’

James Newton Howard has signed on to score the upcoming indie thriller Nightcrawler. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Gilroy (Real Steel, Two for the Money) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton, Riz Ahmed and Kevin Rahm. The movie tells the story of a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. freelance crime journalism. Gilroy has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Jennifer Fox (We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Informant!), Michel Litvak & David Lancaster (Drive, Legion) for Bold Films and his brother brother, Tony. Howard has previously scored Tony Gilroy’s last three features, including Michael Clayton, Duplicity and The Bourne Legacy. Nightcrawler is currently in post-production. Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming thriller The Coup. The film is directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil, Quarantine) and stars Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Sterling Jerins. The movie follows an American family who move to Southeast Asia and find themselves entangled in a violent coup in which merciless rebels attack the city. The director has also co-written the screenplay with his brother, Drew Dowdle, who is producing the project with Michel Litvak, David Lancaster & Gary Michael Walters (Drive, Legion, The Hole).
