Alexandre Desplat was chosen as Film Composer of the Year 2014 at the World Soundtrack Awards 2012, tonight’s closing event of the 41st Ghent Film Festival. Desplat also received an award for his score for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel in the Best Original Film Score of the Year category. Desplat also composed the music for such films as Gareth Edward’s Godzilla, George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and Stephen Frears’ Philomena over the past year. The composer previously was named Film Composer of the Year in 2007, 2009 and 2011. In the Discovery of the Year category, Daniel Pemberton was awarded for his work over the last year, which included his scores for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor and the comedy Cuban Fury. In the Best Original Song category, Pharrell Williams was honored for his Oscar-nominated song Happy from Despicable Me 2. Read the rest of this entry »

‘The Theory of Everything’ Soundtrack Preview

The film’s original music is composed by Jóhann Jóhannsson (Prisoners, For Ellen). Ash International will release a soundtrack album for the drama I Am Here. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jóhann Jóhannsson (The Theory of Everything, Prisoners) & BJ Nilsen. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 1, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The album is also being released on Vinyl overseas. NBC announced today that Matthew Sklar and Christopher Guardino are composing the score for the upcoming NBC holiday event Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. The stop-motion animated special is directed by Mark Caballero & Seamus Walsh and features the voice talent of Jim Parsons, Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Rachael MacFarlane, Max Charles, Gilbert Gottfried, Kate Micucci and Steve Higgins. The hour-long special is based on Jon Favreau’s hit 2003 hit film starring Will Ferrell and the Broadway show Elf: The Musical and tells the story of Buddy’s travels to New York City to meet the father he never knew he had. ‘White Bird in a Blizzard’ – Songs from the Film Album Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a second soundtrack album for the indie drama White Bird in a Blizzard. The release features the songs from the film by Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd, Psychedelic Furs, New Order, Echo and The Bunnymen, Love and Rockets, Everything But The Girl, Soft Cell, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Ulrich Schnauss. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 11, 2014 and physically on December 12. As previously reported, the label has also released a separate soundtrack featuring the film’s original score composed by Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd. WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Lion King, The Thin Red Line, Man of Steel) who previously scored the director’s Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy. The soundtrack will be released on November 18, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full details are expected to be revealed after the movie opens on November 7. Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The movie follows a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. The pop punk band All Time Low is providing the soundtrack for the upcoming teen comedy Fan Girl. The film is directed by Paul Jarrett and stars Kiernan Shipka, Meg Ryan, Scott Adsit, Joshua Boone and Bill Sage. The movie follows a 15-year-old teen who lives for making movies and worshiping her favorite band and comes up with an idea that could bring her two passions together. Gina O’Brien (Once More With Feeling) has written the screenplay. Jarrett is also producing the Rosetta Films, Filament Productions and Literally Films production with Nick Huston and Adam Spielberg. Mark Isham Scoring Scott Hick’s ‘Fallen’

Mark Isham is composing the music for the upcoming fantasy romance Fallen. The film is directed by Scott Hicks (Shine, Snow Falling on Cedars, Hearts in Atlantis) and stars Addison Timlin, Jeremy Irvine, Harrison Gilbertson and Joely Richardson. The movie is based on the YA novel by Lauren Kate and follows a shy teen who is suspected of killing a boy and is sent to Sword and Cross reform school, where she is confronted by frequent supernatural occurrences and it becomes clear that the majority of students are fallen angels on the side of good or evil. Mark Ciardi & Gordon Gray (The Rookie, Million Dollar Arm) are producing the project for Mayhem Pictures, alongside Bill Johnson & Jim Seibel (The Women, Just Friends) for Lotus Entertainment.
