Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

rogue-oneOpening in most theaters is the sci-fi adventure Rogue One: A Star Wars Story directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Star TrekUpInside OutJurassic WorldDoctor Strange). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, which also features themes by John Williams. collateral-beautyAlso opening wide is the drama Collateral Beauty directed by David Frankel and stars Will Smith, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears PradaGhostbustersTropic ThunderMarley & MeSt. Vincent) has composed the film’s original score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a new mix of the One Direction song Let’s Hurt Tonight. beachesWarner Bros. Records will release a soundtrack for the Lifetime original movie Beaches. The EP features five songs from the film performed by Idina Menzel. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 13, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The first track, Wind Beneath My Wings, is already available to download. Beaches is directed by Allison Anders and stars Menzel, alongside Nia Long, Gabriella Pizzolo, Grace Capeless, Jodi Capeless, Sanai Victoria and Antonio Cupo. The movie is a remake of the 1988 feature of the same name and revolves around a meeting of two youngsters on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on an unexpected and lifelong friendship. big-sickMichael Andrews has signed on to score the upcoming romantic comedy The Big Sick. The film is directed by Michael Showalter (Hello, My Name Is DorisWet Hot American Summer) and stars Kumail Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, Ray Romano and Anupam Kher. The movie follows a Pakistan-born comedian and an American grad student as they are dealing with their cultural differences as their relationship grows. Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) also co-wrote the screenplay with Emily V. Gordon. Judd Apatow (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Trainwreck, Knocked Up) is producing the project with Barry Mendel (The Sixth Sense, Bridesmaids, Munich). Read the rest of this entry »

sherlockSilva Screen Records will release new soundtrack albums for the BBC hit series Sherlock. The albums feature the original music from the fourth season episodes The Six Thatchers and The Lying Detective composed by David Arnold (Independence DayCasino RoyaleStargate, Tomorrow Never Dies) and Michael Price (The Inbetweeners 2). The soundtrack for The Six Thatchers will be released digitally on January 2, 2017 (click here to download) and the score for The Lying Detective episode will be coming out on January 9 (visit iTunes to pre-order). An album for the third new episode, The Final Problem, will be released on December 16. The label has previously released soundtracks for the first three seasons and will also release a CD featuring the music from the fourth season in late January. Soundtrack Album for Rob Zombie’s ’31’ Released

31Universal Music has released a soundtrack album for Rob Zombie’s horror thriller 31. The album features the songs from the movie by The James Gang, Kitty Wells, The Mamas & The Papas, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ernest Tubb & more. Also included are selections from the movie’s score by Zombie and John 5. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. A vinyl version is set to be released next year and is available for pre-order here. 31 is written and directed by Zombie and stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Malcom McDowell, Meg Foster, Elizabeth Daily, Sandra Rosko and Richard Brake. The album features the songs from the show by artists including Kari Faux, GoldLink, TT The Artist, The Internet, Guordan Banks, Problem feat. Bad Lucc & The Homegirl, Thundercat, St. Beauty & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 16 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Insecure is created by Issa Rae & Larry Wilmore and stars Rae herself, alongside Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce. california-locoWalt Disney Records will release the original song California Loco from the animated short Inner Workings. The song is written and performed by the film’s composer Ludwig Goransson (CreedCommunityFruitvale StationCentral Intelligence) and features vocals by Este Haim. The track will be released as a digital single tomorrow, December 16 and will be available to download on Amazon. The label has also released Goransson’s original score from the film a weeks ago. Inner Workings is written and directed by Leonardo Matsuda and tells the story of the internal struggle between a man’s pragmatic, logical side and his free-spirited, adventurous half. The short is now playing in theaters nationwide in front of Disney Animation’s feature Moana.

shaiman-wittmanMarc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are attached to compose the score for an original feature musical based on the book Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals.  Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are attached to develop the project, which has sold to Amblin Partners. Steve Levenson (Masters of Sex, Dear Evan Hansen stage musical) is writing the screenplay and Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies, Into the Woods, Legally Blonde) will produce the film with Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns). ingrid-goes-westNick Thorburn is scoring the upcoming indie comedy Ingrid Goes West. The film is directed by Matt Spicer (Ceremony) and stars Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell and Billy Magnussen. The movie follows a young woman who becomes obsessed with an Instagram lifestyle blogger and moves to Los Angeles to try and befriend her in real life. Spicer also co-wrote the screenplay with David Branson Smith. The film is directed by Adam Bhala Lough (Bomb the System) and centers on a group of uncompromising millennial radicals from the United States and the United Kingdom who attack the system through dangerous technological means, which evolves into a high-stakes game with world authorities in the midst of a dramatically changing political landscape.
