Will Blair and Brooke Blair have composed the music for the new Sundance Now original series This Close. The show is created by Josh Feldman & Shoshannah Stern who are also starring in the comedy drama with Cheryl Hines, Zach Gilford, Colt Prattes and Marlee Matlin. The 6-part series revolves around two best friends who are deaf and try to balance their personal and professional lives. Feldman and Stern are also executive producing the project with Christine Vachon (Carol, Far from Heaven), David Hinojosa (Beatriz at Dinner), Mary Pat Bentel (Animals, Goodbye World), Paul Young (Central Intelligence, Black-ish) and director Andrew Ahn (Spa Night). Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the war drama 12 Strong directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon and Michael Peña. The film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Genius, The Crown, Terminator Genisys, Home). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Click here for the full album details. The movie also features an original song, It Goes On performed by Zac Brown & Sir Rosevelt and written by Brown, Ben Simonetti & Niko Moon, which is available to download here.
Also opening wide is the heist thriller Den of Thieves directed by Christian Gudegast and starring Gerard Butler, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Evan Jones, Cooper Anderson and Maurice Compte. Cliff Martinez (Drive, Traffic, The Neon Demon, Narc, The Foreigner) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The album features the songs from the film performed by the movie musical’s cast including Meg Donnelly, Milo Manheim, Trevor Tordjman and Kylee Russell. Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Night Of, Star Trek: Discovery) and Jordan Gagne are composing the score for new Paramount Network limited series Waco. Russo has also composed the main title theme for the show created by John Erick Dowdle & Drew Dowdle (No Escape, Quarantine) and starring Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Rory Culkin, Melissa Benoist, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim and Julia Garner. The 6-parter is based on the true story of the 1993 FBI siege of a religious sect in Waco, Texas that resulted in the deadly shoot out and fire. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the new TNT original series The Alienist. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge, The Legend of Tarzan, The Crown, Over the Hedge). The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, January 26, and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Alienist is developed by Cary Fukunaga based on the novel of same name by Caleb Carr and stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty, Robert Wisdom, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Brian Geraghty and Q’orianka Kilcher. BMG Italy has released a soundtrack album for Paolo Virzi’s drama The Leisure Seeker. The album features the film’s original music composed by Carlo Virzi (Human Capital, The First Beautiful Thing, My Name Is Tanino). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. The Leisure Seeker starring Helen Mirren, Donald Sutherland, Christian McKay, Janel Moloney, Dana Ivey and Dick Gregory follows a couple on a road trip as they travel from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West, recapturing their passion for life and their love for each other. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and will be released in select U.S. theaters on March 9 by Sony Pictures Classics (following an awards-qualifing release last month). Mercury Records will release a soundtrack album for Aardman Animations’ feature Early Man. The album features the film’s original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Shrek) who previously scored Aardman’s Chicken Run (with John Powell), Flushed Away & Arthur Christmas, and Tom Howe (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women).
