Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Tomb Raider directed by Roar Uthaug and starring Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Divergent, Black Mass). Also opening wide is the coming-of-age drama Love, Simon directed by Greg Berlanti and starring Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Miles Heizer, Keiynan Lonsdale, Logan Miller, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel and Tony Hale. RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie (click here for more information). Marcelo Zarvos (Wonder, Fences, The Affair, The Good Shepherd) is composing the music for the upcoming biographical drama Mapplethorpe. The film is written and directed by Ondi Timoner (Dig!, We Live in Public) and stars Matt Smith, Marianne Rendón, John Benjamin Hickey, Brandon Sklenar, McKinley Belcher III and Mark Moses. The movie tells the story of art-school dropout Robert Mapplethorpe who quickly became the enfant terrible of the photography world as the downtown counterculture of 1970s New York reached its zenith. Timoner is also producing the project with actress Eliza Dushku, Nathaniel Dushku and Richard J. Bosner.

Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the NBC television event Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. The album features the songs from the TV special written by Andrew Llyod Webber and Tim Rice and performed by John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Alice Cooper and other cast members. 20th Century Fox TV Records will release a soundtrack album for the FX original series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The album features selections of the show’s original score composed by Emmy Award winner Mac Quayle (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story, Feud: Bette and Joan, Scream Queens) who previously composed the music for the first American Crime Story season, The People v. Marvel Music and Hollywood Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Jessica Jones. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s second season composed by Sean Callery (24, Homeland, Marvel’s Inhumans, Designated Survivor, Bones), as well as a new version of the composer’s main title theme, for which he received his fourth Emmy Award in 2016.
