Premiering tonight is the Fox Live television event Rent executive produced by Marc Platt based on Jonathan Larson’s stage musical of the same title and starring Vanessa Hudgens, Brandon Victor Dixon, Mario, Tinashe, Kiersey Clemons, Jordan Fisher, Brennin Hunt and Valentina. Masterworks Broadway will release a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the TV special. Premiering tomorrow, January 28 is the TNT limited series I Am the Night developed by Sam Sheridan, executive produced by Patty Jenkins and starring Chris Pine, India Eisley, Jefferson Mays, Leland Orser, Yul Vasquez, Dylan Smith, Golden Brooks, Justin Cornwell, Jay Paulson and Connie Nielsen. The show’s original music is composed by David Lang (Youth, Wildlife). Brian McOmber (It Comes at Night, Krisha, Ugly) is scoring the upcoming indie drama Mickey and the Bear. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Annabelle Attanasio and stars Camila Morrone, James Badge Dale, Calvin Demba, Ben Rosenfield and Rebecca Henderson. The movie follows a teenage girl who has to keep her single, veteran father afloat, navigating his mercurial moods, opioid addiction, and grief over the loss of his wife. Attanasio also wrote the screenplay. Michel Legrand has passed away today at age 86 in Paris, France. The composer has written over 200 film/TV scores and songs over a five-decade spanning career. He received three Academy Awards for his scores for Robert Mulligan’s Summer of ’42 and Barbra Streisand’s Yentl and the song The Windmills of Your Mind from Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair. He was Oscar-nominated several other times for his music Jacques Demy’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg & The Young Girls of Rochefort, songs from Richard Brooks’ The Happy Ending, Daniel Haller’s Pieces of Dreams and Norman Jewison’s Best Friends. Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:

Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure The Kid Who Would Be King written and directed by Joe Cornish and starring Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Dean Chaumoo, Tom Taylor, Rhianna Dorris, Angus Imrie, Rebecca Ferguson and Patrick Stewart. Also opening wide is the mystery thriller Serenity written and directed by Steven Knight and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou and Jeremy Strong. Benjamin Wallfisch (ItBlade Runner 2049Shazam!Hidden FiguresAnnabelle Creation) has composed the film’s original music. Ethan Gold (The Song of Sway Lake) has composed the original music for the upcoming thriller Relive. The film is directed by Jacob Estes (The Details) and stars David Oyelowo, Storm Reid, Mykelti Williamson, Alfred Molina, Brian Tyree Henry and Shinelle Azoroh. The movie follows a man who – after a man’s family dies in what appears to be a murder – gets a phone call from one of the dead, his niece. Estes also co-wrote the screenplay with Drew Daywalt. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album for The CW drama The Outpost. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s first season composed by James Schafer (Mythica: The Iron Crown, The Christmas Dragon). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The Outpost is created by Jason Faller & Kynan Griffin and stars Jessica Green, Jake Stormoen, Anand Desai Barochia, Imogen Waterhouse, Michael Flynn, Robyn Malcolm, Andrew Howard and Philip Brodi. The drama follows the lone survivor of a race called “Blackbloods” as she travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world to track the killers of her family. Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Eddie the EagleRingsTruth or Dare) has recently scored the fifth episode of the Hulu anthology series Into the Dark. The episode, entitled Down, is directed by Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism13 Sins) and stars Natalie Martinez, Matt Lauria, Arnie Pantoja, Diane Sellers, and Christina Leone. John Powell is reteaming with director Chris Sanders (The Croods, Lilo & Stitch) on the upcoming adventure drama Call of the Wild. The film stars Harrison Ford, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, Cara Gee and Omar Sy. The movie is based on Jack London’s 1903 novel and tells the story of a sled dog that tries to survive the Alaskan wilderness as well as a series of abusive owners.
