Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the adventure drama Arthur the King directed by Simon Cellan Jones and starring Mark Wahlberg, Nathalie Emmanuel, Simu Liu, Juliet Rylance, Bear Grylls, Ali Suliman and Paul Guilfoyle. The film’s original music is composed by Kevin Matley (The Family Plan, Cocaine Cowboy, Path of the Panther, Daniel). Lionsgate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the satirical comedy The American Society of Magical Negroes written and directed by Kobi Libii and starring Justice Smith, David Alan Grier, Michaela Watkins, An-Li Bogan, Drew Tarver, Rupert Friend and Nicole Byer. Michael Abels (Get Out, Us, Nope, Bad Education, The Burial, Breaking, Landscape with Invisible Hand, Nightbooks, See You Yesterday) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Soundtrack Album for John Ridley’s Netflix Film ‘Shirley’ to Be Released

The full details of the soundtrack album for the Netflix original film Shirley have been revealed. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Tamar-kali (Mudbound, The Assistant, The Lie, Little Richard: I Am Everything, Palmer, Mixtape, Come Sunday). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, March 15 by Netflix Music (visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download). A first track (A Hospital Visit) has already been released as last Friday and can be checked out after the jump. Available separately as a digital single is the original song Why I’m Here by Samara Joy. Shirley is written and directed by John Ridley and stars Regina King, Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, André Holland, Lucas Hedges, Christina Jackson, Michael Cherrie and Brian Stokes Mitchell. The biographical drama tells the story of Shirley Chisholm who made a trailblazing run for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination after becoming the first Black woman elected to Congress.

Samara Joy’s Original Song ‘Why I’m Here’ from John Ridley’s ‘Shirley’ Released

Verve Records has released the original song Why I’m Here from the Netflix original film Shirley. The track is co-written (with PJ Morton) and performed by Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Samara Joy and is now available to stream on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the song after the jump. A full soundtrack album featuring Tamar-kali’s original score from the movie will be released next month. Shirley is written and directed by John Ridley and stars Regina King (in the title role of politician Shirley Chisholm), Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, Lucas Hedges, André Holland, Christina Jackson, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael Cherrie.

Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Come Sunday) has signed on to score the upcoming psychological drama Shirley. The film is directed by Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline) and stars Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman and Odessa Young. The movie tells the story of a young couple that moves in with famed horror author Shirley Jackson and her husband in the hopes of starting a new life and find themselves fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Jackson’s next major novel. Sarah Gubbins (I Love Dick) wrote the screenplay based on the novel of the same title by Susan Scarf Merrell.
