‘Disney Goes Classical’ Album Announced

Decca Records and Disney Music Group’s Walt Disney Records have announced Disney Goes Classical, a new album featuring music from the most-recognizable Disney films from its Golden Age to the nineties Renaissance and into the modern era of CGI animation. The music is performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Among the titles featured on the album are The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Toy Story 2 and Moana. The first single from album, Can You Feel the Love Tonight (written by Elton John & Tim Rice for 1994’s The Lion King) performed by Matteo Bocelli, is already available to download/stream here. Back Lot Music will release a new soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s Netflix series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. The album features the songs from the show’s second season performed by Karen Fukahara, Sydney Mikayla, John Lavelle, Dan Stevens, Mindy Sterling, Kay Bess and Chris Anthony Lansdowne. Also included are selections of the original score from Season 2 composed by Daniel Rojas. The Season 2 Mixtape will be released digitally tomorrow, May 29 and will be available to stream/download here. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring music from Season 1 earlier this year. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is created by Radford Sechrist and stars Fukahara & Mikayla, alongside Coy Stewart, Deon Cole and Dee Bradley Baker.  Read the rest of this entry »

HBO Max has announced today that singer/songwriter Leland (aka Brett McLaughlin) is composing original songs and the original score for the upcoming HBO Max scripted special Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020. The show is inspired by Laua Benanti’s #SunshineSongs social media campaign and will star a diverse group of student actors whose school productions have shut down due to the pandemic. The special will will feature original music performed from their homes and explores tried-and-true themes of classic teen movies through the totally unique lens of a world turned upside down by the global pandemic. Benanti is also executive producing the World of Wonder production with Randy Barbato & Fenton Bailey (Party Monster) and Tom Campbell (RuPaul’s Drag Race). Read the rest of this entry »

Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the National Geographic limited series Barkskins. The album features the show’s original music composed by Colin Stetson (HereditaryColor Out of SpaceThe First, Outlaws and Angels). The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 5, 2020 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Barkskins is created by Elwood Reid based on Annie Proulx’s novel of the same title and stars David Thewlis, Marcia Gay Harden, Aneurin Barnard, James Bloor, David Wilmot, Christian Cooke, Thomas M. Wright, Lily Sullivan, Tallulah Haddon, Kaniehtiio (Tiio) Horn and Zahn McClarnon. The 8-parter follows a disparate group of outcasts and dreamers battling to escape their pasts. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the thriller Becky. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nima Fakhrara (The Signal, The PyramidThe Girl in the Photographs, Detroit: Become Human). The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 12, 2020 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Becky is directed by Jonathan Milott and stars Lulu Wilson, Kevin James, Joel McHale, Amanda Brugel and Robert Maillet. The movie follows a spunky and rebellious woman who is brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her fatherin an effort to try to reconnect, when a group of convicts on the run suddenly invade the lake house. The album features the film’s original score composed by Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Terminator: Dark Fate). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 29 and will be available to stream/download here. Atlantic Records has previously released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie. Scoob! is directed by Tony Cervone and stars Zac Efron, Frank Welker, Gina Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried, Will Forte, Mark Wahlberg, Kiersey Clemons, Ken Jeong and Jason Isaacs. Alma Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie drama The Cuban. The album features the film’s original music composed by Grammy Award-nominated jazz pianist Hilario Duran. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The Cuban is directed by Sergio Navarretta and stars Louis Gossett Jr., Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ana Golja, Giacomo Gianniotti and Lauren Holly. The movie centers on a young Afghan immigrant named who starts her first job at a nursing home when an unexpected friendship with a Cuban resident with dementia reignites her love of music and changes her life. Walt Disney Records has released the original song I Am With You from the final episode of Disney’s short digital series At Home with Olaf. The track is written by Academy Award winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez (Frozen, Coco) and performed by Josh Gad. The song is now available to stream as a digital single on Amazon. Also watch the full episode after the jump. The final episode of At Home with Olaf created by Hyrum Osmon follows Olaf writing a song in the form of a letter as a montage of clips from Disney movies (including Alice in Wonderland, The Princess and the Frog, Tarzan, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Moana, Lilo & Stitch) is played.
