Premiering tonight is the HBO limited series The Undoing created by David E. Kelley, directed by Susanne Bier and starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, Edgar Ramirez, Noah Jupe, Noma Dumezweni, Lily Rabe, Matilda De Angelis, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Donald Sutherland. The show’s original music is composed by Evgueni Galperine & Sacha Galperine (The Family, Radioactive, Loveless, The Wizard of Lies, Nine Lives). Premiering on Wednesday, October 28, is the Netflix original film Holidate directed by John Whitesell and starring Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Andrew Bachelor, Jessica Capshaw, Jake Manley, Manish Dayal, Frances Fisher and Kristin Chenoweth. Gaumont has released a soundtrack album for the French comedy Bye Bye Morons (Adieu les cons). The album features the film’s original music composed by Christophe Julien (See You Up There, Ares, Nothing to Hide, Mes heros). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. Bye Bye Morons is directed by Albert Dupontel and stars Virginie Efira, Dupontel himself and Nicolas Marié. The movie follows a terminally-ill hairdresser as she tries to find the child she gave up for adoption after an unwanted teen pregnancy, when she crosses paths cross with a jaded suicidal bureaucrat. Hildur Guðnadóttir Named Film Composer of the Year at 2020 World Soundtrack Awards

Hildur Guðnadóttir was named Film Composer of the Year at the 20th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 47th Ghent Film Festival, for her score for Todd Phillips’ Joker, for which she also earned an Academy Award and Golden Globe earlier this year. She previously received the World Soundtrack Award in the TV Composer of the Year category last year. Last year’s Film Composer of the Year winner Nicholas Britell was selected as TV Composer of the Year today for his score for the second season of HBO’s Succession. Stand Up from Kasi Lemmon’s Harriet (written by Joshuah Brian Campbell & Cynthia Erivo) was named Best Original Song. Read the rest of this entry »

The only movie premiering in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror thriller The Empty Man written and directed by David Prior and starring James Badge Dale, Marin Ireland, Stephen Root, Robert Aramayo, Ron Canada, Joel Courtney and Sasha Frolova. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Hellraiser, Sinister, The Shipping News, The Hurricane, Ghost Rider) and Lustmord (First Reformed). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in select theaters is the sci-fi thriller Synchronic directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead and starring Anthony Mackie, Jamie Dornan and Katie Aselton. Jimmy LaValle (aka The Album Leaf) (The Endless, Spring, The F**k-It List) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be announced soon. The movie, which follows two New Orleans paramedics as they stumble upon a bizarre plot involving a series of drug-related deaths, premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment. Walt Disney Records has released a score album for the Disney Channel original movie Upside-Down Magic. The album features the film’s original score composed by Tom Howe (A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Early Man, Ted Lasso, Professor Marston & the Wonder Women). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out audio clips. The label has previously released the Everything’s Magic cover featured in the movie. Upside-Down Magic is directed by Joe Nussbaum and stars Izabela Rose, Siena Agudong, Vicki Lewis, Elie Samouhi, Kyle Howard, Alison Fernandez and Max Torina. Walt Disney Records has released the original music from the new Disney+ animated short Once Upon a Snowman. The film’s full score composed Christophe Beck (Frozen, Ant-Man, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hangover, The Muppets, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jeff Morrow (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, Science Fair, Ibiza, Trolls Holiday) is now available to stream/download as a digital single on Amazon and other digital music stores. Once Upon a Snowman is directed by Trent Correy & Dan Abraham and stars Josh Gad who reprises his role as Olaf from the Frozen franchise and follows the character’s first steps as he comes to life and searches for his identity in the snowy mountains outside Arendelle. DJ, record producer & composer Paul Oakenfold and Michael J. McEvoy (Me and Orson Welles, Finding Your Feet, Forget Me Not) have teamed up to score the new Showtime documentary Citizen Bio. The film is directed by Trish Dolman (Eco-Pirate: The Story of Paul Watson, Hector and the Search for Happiness) and centers on the nascent biohacking movement and the unconventional scientists and researchers developing alternative medicines to prolong human life and eradicate incurable viruses and diseases. The movie follows the stories of four American biohackers and their relationships with Aaron Traywick, a self-proclaimed biohacker whose life took a tragic turn when he was mysteriously found dead at a meditation spa at the age of 28. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack EP for Pedro Almodóvar’s short The Human Voice. The digital EP features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner, Volver, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Skin I Live In, Pain and Glory). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music services.  The Human Voice written and directed by Almodóvar is based original stage play by Jean Cocteau and stars Tilda Swinton as a desperate woman who waits for the phone call of the lover who has just abandoned her.
