Steve Jablonsky and Nathan Whitehead have signed on to compose the music for the upcoming TNT original series The Last Ship. Jablonsky is composing the main themes and Whitehead is providing the score for the show created by Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) and starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin and Tracy Middendorf. The drama opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population and follows the crew of a lone naval destroyer who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Michael Bay is producing the project with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror), alongside Steinberg and Kane.

Mac Quayle to Score ‘L.A. Slasher’
Mac Quayle has been hired to score the upcoming horror comedy L.A. Slasher. The film is written and directed by Martin Owen and stars Mischa Barton, Eric Roberts, Dave Bautista, Danny Trejo, Drake Bell and Brooke Hogan. The movie is a satirical take on the horror genre set against the celebrity obsessed world of modern day Los Angeles. Daniel Sollinger is producing the project.
Quayle has previously scored the Netflix series Bad Samaritans and co-composed the music for the drama A Belfast Story starring Colm Meaney with Nick Glennie-Smith. He also collaborated with Cliff Martinez as an additional music composer and music programmer on a number of projects.
Hans Zimmer to Produce Junkie XL’s ‘Divergent’ Score
Following our news article from earlier this week, it was revealed today that Hans Zimmer will serve as the executive score producer on the sci-fi adventure film Divergent. Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenberg) is composing the score for the film based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling novel, directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. The composer whose other previous and upcoming scoring credits include 300: Rise of an Empire, Mad Max: Fury Road, Paranoia has previously collaborated with Zimmer numerous times, providing additional music for such film as Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, Madagascar series, Shark Tale and Megamind.
Junkie XL to Score ‘Divergent’
Junkie XL is currently working on the score for the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent. The movie is directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless) and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, Ray Stevenson, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. The film based on Veronica Roth’s first of a trilogy of novels is set in a post-apocalytic Chicago divided into five factions and follows 16-year-old Beatrice Prior whose life changes dramatically when she switches factions. Vanessa Taylor (Hope Springs, Jack & Bobby) and Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) have written the screenplay.
Ryan Shore to Score ‘The List’
Ryan Shore has signed on to score the upcoming romantic comedy The List. The film is directed by Harris Goldberg and stars Patrick Fugit, Jennifer Morrison, Karen Gillan, Aaron Staton, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Giles Martini, Jobeth Williams and Victoria Tennant. The movie follows a man who takes on a list of self improvements in order to win the affection of his dream girl. Kristen D’Alessio has co-written the screenplay with Goldberg and is also producing the project for Goose’s List. The Grammy Award-winning composer whose previous scoring credits include Prime, Harvard Man and the video game Spy Hunter has previously collaborated with Goldberg on the 2007 drama Numb starring Matthew Perry.
Martin Phipps Scoring ‘The Keeping Room’
Martin Phipps is the composer of the upcoming drama The Keeping Room. The film is directed by Daniel Barber and stars Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld, Sam Worthington, Amy Nuttall and Ned Dehenny. The movie is set in the Civil War and follows three Southern women who are forced to defend their home from the onslaught of a band of soldiers who have broken off from the fast approaching Union Army. Julia Hart has written the screenplay. Jordan Horowitz (The Kids Are All Right) is producing the project for Gilbert Films, alongside Matt Williams, David McFadzean (Where the Heart Is), Judd Payne & Dete Meserve (Bernie) for Wind Dancer Films. Phipps has previously collaborated with Barber on the thriller Harry Brown starring Michael Caine, which he co-scored with Ruth Barrett.
Clinton Shorter to Score ‘Pompeii’
Clinton Shorter is composing the score for the upcoming historical action epic Pompeii. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, AVP: Alien vs Predator, Mortal Kombat) and stars Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paz Vega, Jared Harris and Kiefer Sutherland. The movie follows an enslaved Celtic gladiator who falls in love with a noblewoman on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii. The screenplay is written Lee Batchler & Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever) and Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). Anderson is also producing the Constantin Film and Impact Pictures production with Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil series, Death Race), Robert Kulzer (The Mortal Instruments, Wrong Turn) and Don Carmody (Silent Hill, Goon).
‘Careful What You Wish For’ to Feature Music by John Debney, The Newton Brothers & Josh Debney
John Debney has composed the theme for the upcoming thriller Careful What You Wish For. The composer’s son Josh Debney and The Newton Brothers have written the score for the movie directed by Elizabeth Allen (Aquamarine, Ramona and Beezus) and starring Isabel Lucas, Dermot Mulroney, Nick Jonas, Graham Rogers and Paul Sorvino. The film follows a young, lonely wife of a wealthy businessman who rents the lake house next door to a high-school student. When the student starts an affair with the wife, he gets more than he bargained for. Robert L. Stein, Michael A. Helfant & Bradley Gallo are producing the project for Troika Pictures, alongside Ashok Amritraj (Bandits, Shopgirl) for Hyde Park and Kirk D’Amico.
Anton Sanko Scoring ‘Alpha House’
Anton Sanko is composing the score for Amazon’s original series Alpha House. The show is created Academy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Garry Trudeau (A Doonesbury Special) and stars John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark Consuelos, Cynthia Nixon, Amy Sedaris, Wanda Sykes and Julie White. The political comedy four misfit senators turned unlikely roommates who move into a house together in Washington DC. Trudeau is producing the project with Elliot Webb and Jonathan Alter. Alpha House is one of Amazon’s first two scripted series and is set to premiere on November 15.
‘Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas’ and ‘Gods Behaving Badly’ to Feature Music by Christopher Young
Christopher Young has composed the score for the upcoming comedy Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas. The film is written and directed by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Chad Michael Murray, Larry the Cable Guy, Eric Lively, Alicia Witt, Anna Maria Horsford, Tika Sumpter, Eric Lively, Lisa Whelchel, JR Lemon and Kathy Najimy. The movie follows Madea as she gets talked into helping a friend pay her daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas. Perry is also producing the film with Ozzie Areu (House of Payne, Good Deeds) and Matt Moore. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas will be released on December 13, 2013 by Lionsgate.
