Joseph Bishara has been tapped to score the upcoming horror prequel Insidious: Chapter 3. The film marks the directorial debut of writer/actor Leigh Whannell (Saw) who scripted the previous two movies in the series. The movie stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Steve Coulter, Angus Sampson, Hayley Kiyoko, Ashton Moio, as well as Whannell himself. The film is set before the haunting of the Lambert family and reveals how Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) who directed the first two installments is producing the project with Jason Blum (Whiplash, The Purge) for Blumhouse Productions and Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).

Matthew Margeson Scoring ‘Scouts vs. Zombies’
Matthew Margeson is scoring the upcoming horror comedy Scouts vs. Zombies. The film is directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) and stars Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller,Joey Morgan, Sarah Dumont, David Koechner, Cloris Leachman, Halston Sage and Patrick Schwarzenegger. The movie follows three scouts who, on the eve of their last camp out, discover the true meaning of friendship when they attempt to save their town from a zombie outbreak. Landon has also written the screenplay based on Lona Williams’ (Drop Dead Gorgeous) and Etan Cohen’s (Tropic Thunder) draft of an original script from Emi Mochizuki & Carrie Evans (College Road Trip).

Premiering tonight in the U.S. is the second part of the Worricker trilogy, Turks & Caicos directed by David Hare and starring Bill Nighy as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker, alongside Christopher Walken, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by Paul Englishby (An Englishby, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) who previously scored Hare’s Page Eight. The composer also scored the final part in the trilogy, Salting the Battlefield. The Newton Brothers to Score ‘The Runner’
The Newton Brothers have been hired to score the upcoming political drama The Runner. The film marks the directorial debut of Austin Stark and stars Nicolas Cage, Sarah Paulson, Connie Nielsen, Peter Fonda, Bryan Batt and Wendell Pierce. The movie takes place in the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill and follows a idealistic but flawed congressman who is forced to confront his dysfunctional life after his career is destroyed in a sex scandal. Stark has also written the screenplay. Benji Kohn, Bingo Gubelmann & Chris Papavasiliou (Happythankyoumoreplease) and Erika Hampson (Mall) are producing the project for Paper Street Films, alongside Glenn Williamson (The Omen, Sunshine Cleaning, Push) for Back Lot Pictures.
Lisa Gerrard & Marcello De Francisci to Score Gavin O’Connor’s ‘Jane Got a Gun’
Lisa Gerrard and Marcello De Francisci have been tapped to score the upcoming western Jane Got a Gun. The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor and stars Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewan McGregor, Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook and Noah Emmerich. The movie follows a woman who asks an ex for help to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him. Portman is also producing the project for her Handsomecharlie Films company, alongside Scott Steindorff (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Human Stain), Aleen Keshishian, Terry Dougas, Scott LaStaiti and Regency Boies.
Jason Moran Scoring Ava DuVernay’s ‘Selma’
Jason Moran is currently recording his orchestral score for the upcoming biographical drama Selma in Seattle. The project marks the first scoring assignment of the jazz pianist who is also the artistic director for music at the Kennedy Center. Selma is directed by Ava DuVernay and stars David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King and Tom Wilkinson as Lyndon Baines Johnson. Andre Holland, Tessa Thompson, Omar J. Dorsey and Colman Domingo are co-starring. The movie tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s struggle to secure voting rights for all people that culminated with a march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Howard Shore to Score Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’
Howard Shore confirmed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he will be reuniting with director Martin Scorsese on the upcoming historical drama Silence. The film stars Andrew Garfield as a 17th-century Portuguese Jesuit who travels to Japan with a fellow priest, played by Liam Neeson, amid rumors that his mentor has abandoned the Church, to find out that the local Christian population has been driven underground by religious persecution. Ken Watanabe and Adam Driver are co-starring. Jay Cooks (Gangs of New York, Age of Innocence) has written the screenplay based on the novel by Shûsaku Endô. Irwin Winkler (Goodfellas, Rocky, Raging Bull) is producing the project with Randall Emmett & George Furla (End of Watch, Lone Survivor, 2 Guns) and Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street).
Hans Zimmer to Collaborate with Junkie XL on ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’
Hans Zimmer revealed in an interview with Comic Book Resource that he will be collaborating with Junkie XL on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The composer mentioned that Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg will be providing music for the Batman character, while he will take care of Clark Kent/Superman. Zimmer previously scored Snyder’s Man of Steel. Junkie XL composed additional music for Man of Steel and also worked with Snyder on 300: Rise of an Empire. Zimmer had previously expressed hesitation to score another Batman movie when he was first asked about the project given his involvement with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman v Superman starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter is set to be released on March 25, 2016 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Cliff Martinez to Score Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘The Neon Demon’
Gaumont and Wild Bunch announced today that Cliff Martinez will reunite with director Nicolas Winding Refn on the upcoming horror thriller The Neon Demon. No plot details have been announced yet, but the film is described as a horror tale with a young female-led cast, which will be revealed later this year. Refn and Mary Laws are writing the screenplay. Lene Borglum (Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives) is producing the project through Refn’s production company Space Rocket. Also on board are editor Matthew Newman (Bronson, Drive) and Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd (The Grandmaster, Seven Pounds, A Good Year). Martinez has previously scored Refn’s two previous features Drive and Only God Forgives.
Marc Streitenfeld Scoring ‘Poltergeist’ Remake
Marc Streitenfeld has recently composed the music for the upcoming Poltergeist remake. The film is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie Dewitt, Jared Harris, Kyle Catlett, Saxon Sharbino, Kennedi Clements and Jane Adams. The movie follows the Bowen family, whose life is suddenly disrupted after a supernatural force takes over their home and begins terrorizing them. David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Oz the Great and Powerful, Robots) has written the screenplay. Sam Raimi & Robert Tapert (Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell, The Grudge) are producing the project for Ghost House Pictures, alongside Roy Lee (The Lego Movie, Dark Water).
