John Paesano has officially signed on to score the upcoming sequel The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. Wes Ball returns to direct the second part in the series, which stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee and Patricia Clarkson who reprise their roles from the first part. They are joined by new cast members members Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Nathalie Emmanuel, Rosa Salazar, Jacob Lofland, Barry Pepper and Lili Taylor. T.S. Nowlin has written the sequel’s script based on the novel by James Dashner. Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group are back to produce the project.

Edward Shearmur Scoring Iain Softley’s ‘Curve’
Edward Shearmur is reteaming with director Iain Softley on the upcoming Curve. The film stars Julianne Hough & Teddy Sears and follows a young bride-to-be who is trapped in her overturned car off a deserted highway after deliberately crashing it in an attempt to escape a predatory hitchhiker. Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Sinister) is producing the project through his Blumhouse Productions company, alongside Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop), Julie Yorn (Unstoppable, We Bought a Zoo) and Juan Sola (Anna).
John Paesano to Score Angelo Pizzo’s ‘My All American’
John Paesano has been tapped to score the upcoming sports drama My All American. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Angelo Pizzo (Rudy, Hoosiers, The Game of Their Lives) and stars Aaron Eckhart, Finn Wittrock, Robin Tunney and Sarah Bolger. The movie tells the true story of 1960s University of Texas football star Freddie Steinmark and his relationship with legendary Texas coach Darrell Royal. Steinmark was a player on the national-title-winning 1969 team, before his career was cut short when he went to the hospital for a bone bruise and learned that he had a cancerous tumor that took his leg. Pizzo has also written the screenplay.
Rupert Gregson-Williams Scoring ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2’
Rupert Gregson-Williams is composing the score for the upcoming comedy sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. The film is directed by Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain, She’s All That) and stars Kevin James, Molly Shannon, Nicholas Turturro and D.B. Woodside. The movie follows the title character as he must try to stop art thieves while attending a Security Guard Expo in Las Vegas. Todd Garner (Knight and Dayand Adam Sandler are producing the project.
Javier Navarrete Scoring ‘Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal’
Javier Navarrete is currently recording his orchestral score for the upcoming Chinese 3D fantasy action adventure Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal. The film is directed by Tianyu Zhao (The Law of Attraction) and stars Chen Kun, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, Yang Zishan, Bao Bei-er and Jike Junyi. The movie is based on the mythological figure Zhong Kui, a ghost assigned with capturing wayward spirits and keeping order in the afterlife. Academy Award-winning cinematographer Peter Pau (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Forbidden Kingdom) is producing the project with Ann An (Ip Man 2).
‘American Sniper’ Features Music by Clint Eastwood and Ennio Morricone
Clint Eastwood has composed Taya’s Theme, the main theme music for his upcoming war drama American Sniper. The movie also features additional music by Joseph DeBeasi who serves as the music editor on the project. Also featured over the end credits sequence of the film is the track The Funeral from the 1965 western The Return of Ringo composed by Ennio Morricone. American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Jake McDorman, Luke Grimes, Navid Negahan and Keir O’Donnell. The movie tells the story of Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history with the nickname “Legend” and 160 confirmed kills. Jason Hall (Paranoia, Spread) has written the screenplay based on Kyle’s autobiography.
Theodore Shapiro & Ryan Adams Scoring Dan Fogelman’s ‘Danny Collins’
Theodore Shapiro and singer/songwriter Ryan Adams have composed the original music for the upcoming comedy drama Danny Collins. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Tangled, Bolt, Last Vegas) and stars Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Peck and Christopher Plummer. The movie follows a rocker who decides to change his life after discovering a letter written to him by John Lennon – prompting him to track down his biological son, whom he’s never met. Fogelman has also written the screenplay. Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, The Story of Us, Corinna, Corinna) is producing the project with Nimitt Mankad (Today’s Special). The movie also features songs by John Lennon.
‘Mortdecai’ to Feature Music by Mark Ronson & Geoff Zanelli
Mark Ronson and Geoff Zanelli have composed the music for the upcoming action comedy Mortdecai. The film is directed by David Koepp (Premium Rush, Stir of Echoes) and stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum and Paul Bettany. The movie follows a debonair art dealer and part time rogue who must traverse the globe in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold. Eric Aronson has written the screenplay. Depp is also producing the OddLot Entertainment production with Gigi Pritzker (Drive, Ender’s Game), Andrew Lazar (Get Smart, Space Cowboys), Christi Dembrowski (Dark Shadows, The Rum Diary) and Patrick McCormick (Peter Pan, Jack the Giant Slayer).
Marius de Vries Scoring Lucasfilm’s ‘Strange Magic’
Marius de Vries has composed the score for Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated musical Strange Magic. The movie is directed by Gary Rydstrom (Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation, Lifted) and features the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein and Peter Stormare. The film tells the story of a group of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. The animated feature is inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream and incorportates popular songs from the past six decades.
Marco Beltrami to Score ‘Hitman: Agent 47’ and Pierre Morel’s ‘The Gunman’
Marco Beltrami revealed in a recent interview with Soundworks Collection that he is composing the music for the upcoming action thriller Hitman: Agent 47. The film is directed by Aleksander Bach and stars Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto and Thomas Kretschmann. The movie is based on the bestselling Hitman video game and follows a young woman who teams up with Agent 47 in order to find her father and her true ancestry. Kyle Ward (Machete Kills), Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Swordfish) and Michael Finch (Predators, The November Man) have written the screenplay. Alex Young (The A-Team, Unstoppable), Chuck Gordon (Die Hard 2, Waterworld, The Rocketeer) and Adrian Askarieh (Hitman) are producing the project.
