John Powell confirmed in a recent interview with Omar Crook on the Living with a Genius podcast that he is reteaming with director Carlos Saldanha on the upcoming animated feature Ferdinand. The movie is based on the the children’s book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf & Robert Lawson and revolves around a bull who doesn’t want to fight in the bullfighting arena like so many of his brethren but instead just wants to smell the flowers. Bruce Anderson (Horton Hears a Who!) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production with Lori Forte (Ice Age series, Epic).

Christophe Beck Scoring ‘Peanuts’ Movie
Christophe Beck is scoring the upcoming animated feature Peanuts. The film is directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who!, Ice Age: Continental Draft) is based on the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz and marks the first CGI-animated fiom based on the property and the first feature featuring the characters in 35 years. The movie follows Snoopy who embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their arch-nemesis, while his best friend Charlie Brown begins his own quest back home. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production with Bryan & Craig Schulz, Cornelius Uliano and Michael J. Travers.
Danny Elfman to Score Blue Sky Studios’ ‘Leafmen’
Kraft-Engel Management, one of the industry’s leading talent agencies specializing in music for film and stage has just launched its official new website, which features audio clips from its large roster of composers, as well as biographies and a credits list of each of the agency’s clients. Several major upcoming scoring assignments have been revealed or confirmed by the site, among them Danny Elfman‘s involvement in Blue Sky Studios’ upcoming animated feature film Leafmen. The movie directed by Chris Wedge is based on the book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by William Joyce about a troop of bugs that try to save a garden and have to battle an evil spider queen. The project is produced by James V. Hart (screenwriter of Hook, Contact and August Rush) and William Joyce (Robots). Elfman has previously worked on the Disney animated film Meet the Robinson, which was also based on a book by Joyce.
