Ilan Eshkeri has recently recorded his score for the upcoming animated feature Shaun the Sheep. The film written and directed by Mark Burton (screenwriter of Madagascar and Gnomeo & Juliet) & Richard Starzak is based on the television series of the same title featuring the sheep character from the Wallace & Gromit short A Close Shave. The movie follows Shaun and his flock into the big city as they try to rescue their farmer, who was forced by Shaun’s mischief to leave the farm. Julie Lockhart (The Pirates! Band of Misfits) and Paul Kewley are producing the project. Aardman Animations’ Peter Lord, Nick Park & David Sproxton (Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit) serve as executive producers.

Brian Byrne Scoring Mike van Diem’s ‘The Surprise’
This week, Brian Byrne has been recording his score for the upcoming Dutch romantic comedy The Surprise (De Surprise). The movie marks the first feature project of director Mike van Diem since he received an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language film category for Character (Karakter) in 1998. The film starring Jeroen van Koningsbrugge, Georgina Verbaan, Jan Decleir and Henry Goodman centers on a depressed man who decides to hire a firm specializing in assisted and seemingly accidental suicides when he meets a beautiful woman – giving him something to live for and forcing him to outsmart the contracted firm. Els Vandevorst (Winter in Wartime, Dogville) is producing with Hans de Weers (Antonia’s Line, New Kids Turbo, New Kids Nitro).
Roque Banos to Score Alejandro Amenábar’s ‘Regression’
Roque Banos has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Regression. The film is written and directed by Alejandro Amenábar and stars Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Dencik, Devon Bostic, David Thewlis, Dale Dickey and Lothaire Bluteau. The movie follows a man who is arrested for sexually abusing his daughter and, with the help of a psychologist, relives the memories and implicates a police officer as his partner in crime. Fernando Bovaira (The Others, Biutiful, Sex and Lucia) is producing the project with Christina Piovesan (The Whistleblower, Amreeka). Amenábar’s last feature Agora was scored by Dario Marianelli, while the director composed the music for several of his earlier movies, including The Others, Open Your Eyes and The Sea Inside.
Scott Bomar Scoring ‘Mississippi Grind’
Scott Bomar has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama Mississippi Grind. The film is written and directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Sugar, Half Nelson) and stars Ryan Reynolds, Sienna Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Alfre Woodard and Analeigh Tipton. The movie follows a charismatic drifter who sets off with a down-on-his-luck poker player on a road trip through the South, where they plan to win back what they’ve already lost. Jamie Patricof & Lynette Howell (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, Big Eyes) are producing the project for Electric City Entertainment, alongside Tom Rice & Ben Nearn (The Way Way Back) for Sycamore Entertainment.
Joseph Trapanese to Score ‘Insurgent’
Joseph Trapanese revealed in an interview with Hitfix that he is scoring the upcoming Divergent sequel Insurgent. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke (RED, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Flightplan) and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend) have written the screenplay based on the novel by Veronica Roth. Douglas Wick & Lucy Fisher (The Great Gatsby, Lawless) and Pouya Shabazian are producing the project.
Carter Burwell to Score Brian Helgeland’s ‘Legend’
Carter Burwell has been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Legend. The film is written and directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, 42, Payback) and stars Tom Hardy, Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Aneurin Barnard, Colin Morgan, Paul Anderson, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri and Tara Fitzgerald. The movie follows the rise and fall of the Kray twins, notorious gangsters who dominated London crime in the sixties. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything), Christopher Clark (Calvary, The Guard) and Quentin Curtis (London Boulevard) are producing the Working Title production.
Lorne Balfe Scoring DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Home’
Lorne Balfe is scoring DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Home. The movie is directed by Tim Johnson (Antz, Over the Hedge) and features the voices of Jim Parsons, Steve Martin, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez. The film is based on Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning of Smekday and centers on a friendly alien race that invades Earth and begins to efficiently reorganize the planet. Tom J. Astle & Matt Ember (Get Smart, Epic) have written the screenplay. Chris Jenkins (Surf’s Up) & Suzanne Buirgy (Kung Fu Panda 2) are producing the project.
Hans Zimmer to Score Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’
According to Hans-Zimmer.com, Hans Zimmer has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming sci-fi thriller Chappie. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, as well as Sharlto Copley as the voice of the title character. The movie follows a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped by two criminals and becomes the adopted son of a very strange and dysfunctional family. Blomkamp has co-writen the script with Terri Tatchell (District 9) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Elysium, Jumper) serves as a producer.
Christophe Beck Scoring ‘Peanuts’ Movie
Christophe Beck is scoring the upcoming animated feature Peanuts. The film is directed by Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who!, Ice Age: Continental Draft) is based on the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz and marks the first CGI-animated fiom based on the property and the first feature featuring the characters in 35 years. The movie follows Snoopy who embarks upon his greatest mission as he and his team take to the skies to pursue their arch-nemesis, while his best friend Charlie Brown begins his own quest back home. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production with Bryan & Craig Schulz, Cornelius Uliano and Michael J. Travers.
Andrew Hewitt to Score ‘The Stanford Prison Experiment’
Andrew Hewitt has been hired to score the upcoming psychological thriller The Stanford Prison Experiment. The film is directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez (C.O.G.) and stars Billy Crudup, Ezra Miller, Olivia Thirlby, Nelsan Ellis, Ki Hong Lee, Tye Sheridan, Michael Angarano, Jack Kilmer and Nicholas Braun. The movie is based on the 1971 psychological exercise, for which randomly-chosen 19 and 20-year-old students were divided into camps of either prison guards or prisoners. Tim Talbott (Chicago Fire) has written the screenplay. Brent Emery is producing the project with Lizzie Friedman & Greg Little (Sex and Death 101), Karen Lauder (And Soon the Darkness), actor Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker) and Lauren Bratman (And While We Were Here).
