Mychael Danna & Jeff Danna have been hired to score Pixar Animation Studios’ upcoming feature Onward. The film is directed by Dan Scanlan (Monsters University) and stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. The movie revolves around two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Kori Rae is producing the Pixar Animation Studios production.

Mychael & Jeff Danna to Score Animated ‘The Addams Family’ Movie
Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote) & Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, Storks, The Boondock Saints) are teaming up to score the upcoming animated feature The Addams Family. The film is directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens) & Greg Tiernan (Sausage Party) and features the voices of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Elsie Fisher, Bette Midler and Allison Janney. The movie based on Charles Addams’ cartoon series and follows the Addams family whose lives begin to unravel when they face off against a crafty reality TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration.
DJ Quik to Score Will Forbes’ ‘John Henry’
Variety is reporting that DJ Quik is set score the upcoming indie drama John Henry. The film is co-written and directed by Will Forbes and stars Terry Crews, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jamila Velazquez, Kimberly Hebert Gregory, J.J. Soria and Ken Foree. The movie follows the title character as he crosses paths with two immigrant kids who are running from the leader of his former gang and is forced to confront the violence of his past life in hopes of saving them.
Paul Haslinger to Score Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘Monster Hunter’
Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Halt and Catch Fire, Crank) confirmed in a recent interview with The 405 that is reuniting with director Paul W.S. Anderson on the upcoming film adaptation of the Capcom video game Monster Hunter. The film is written and directed by Anderson and stars Milla Jovovich, Diego Boneta, Tonya Jaa, Ron Perlman, Meagan Good and T.I. Harris. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon) is also producing the project with Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil, Pompeii) and Robert Kulzer (Fantastic Four, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments).
Torin Borrowdale to Reteam with Aneesh Chaganty on ‘Run’
Torin Borrowdale is reteaming with director Aneesh Chaganty on the upcoming thriller Run. The film starring Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen centers on the mother of a teenage girl who has been raised in total isolation and whose life begins to unravel as she discovers her mother’s sinister secret. Chaganty also co-wrote the screenplay with Sev Ohanian (The Intervention, Take Me) who is producing the project with Natalie Qasabian (All About Nina, Duck Butter). Borrowdale has previously scored Chaganty’s first feature Searching, which opened in theaters last summer.
Bear McCreary to Score ‘Child’s Play’ Reboot’
Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, Battlestar Galactica, Happy Death Day) has been tapped to score the upcoming Child’s Play reboot. The film is directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) and stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman, as well as Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. The horror thriller is based on the 1988 classic (scored by Joe Renzetti) and follows a single mother who gifts her son a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature. Tyler Burton Smith wrote the screenplay. David Katzenberg (It, The Goldbergs) and Seth Grahame-Smith (The Lego Batman Movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) are producing the project.
Clinton Shorter Scoring Joe Carnahan’s ‘Boss Level’
Clinton Shorter (District 9, Contraband, Colony, Pompeii) is composing the original music for the upcoming action thriller Boss Level. The film is directed by Joe Carnahan (Narc, The A-Team) and stars Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, Ken Jeong, Annabelle Wallis and Michelle Yeoh. The movie centers on a retired U.S. Army Special Forces veteran who is trapped in a never-ending loop, resulting in him dying every day, and must figure out who is responsible.
Peter Gregson Scoring Roger Michell’s ‘Blackbird’
Peter Gregson has been hired to score the upcoming drama Blackbird. The film is directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) and stars Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska, Sam Neill, Rainn Wilson, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Lindsay Duncan and Anson Boon. The movie is based on Bille August’s 2014 Danish feature Silent Heart and centers on terminally ill mother who brings her family together for one last weekend before she commits suicide. Christian Torpe (The Mist TV series) who also scripted the original film wrote the screenplay.
Tamar-kali to Score Josephine Decker’s ‘Shirley’
Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Come Sunday) has signed on to score the upcoming psychological drama Shirley. The film is directed by Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline) and stars Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman and Odessa Young. The movie tells the story of a young couple that moves in with famed horror author Shirley Jackson and her husband in the hopes of starting a new life and find themselves fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Jackson’s next major novel. Sarah Gubbins (I Love Dick) wrote the screenplay based on the novel of the same title by Susan Scarf Merrell.
Alexandre Desplat to Score Greta Gerwig’s ‘Little Women’ & Costa-Gavras’ ‘Adults in the Room’
Alexandre Desplat revealed at a masterclass at the Festival Rendez-vous 2019 in Rome last week that he is set to score the upcoming drama Little Women. The film is written and directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Bob Odenkirk and Chris Cooper. The movie is based on the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott and tells the story of the March sisters as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War.
