Rupert Gregson-Williams Scoring Paul Weitz’s ‘Fatherhood’
Rupert Gregson-Williams (Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge, The Crown, The Legend of Tarzan) has recently been scoring the upcoming comedy drama Fatherhood. The film is directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie, About a Boy) and stars Kevin Hart, Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, Anthony Carrigan, Deborah Ayorinde, Melody Hurd, Paul Reiser and DeWanda Wise. The movie is based on Matthew Logelin’s memoir Two Kisses for Maddy and centers on a dad who is forced to raise a child on his own and finds himself wholly unprepared for the challenge. Weitz also co-wrote the screenplay with Dana Stevens (City of Angels, For Love of the Game).

Composers Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Steve Jobs, Birds of Prey, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) and Grégoire Hetzel (Incendies, Summertime, Ismael’s Ghosts, The Midwife) have contributed original music to the upcoming French thriller Lovers (Amants). The film is directed by Nicole Garcia and stars Pierre Niney, Stacy Martin and Benoît Magimel. The movie follows a woman who, while on vacation on an island in the Indian Ocean with her husband, rekindles a passionate affair with her ex-boyfriend. Garcia (A View of Love, Going Away) also co-wrote the screenplay with Jacques Fieschi.
Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) Scoring Gia Coppola’s ‘Mainstream’
Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) is reteaming with director Gia Coppola to score the upcoming drama Mainstream. The film starring Andrew Garfield, Maya Hawke, Nat Wolff, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Knoxville, Chris Messina, Alexa Demie & Colleen Camp is being described as a cautionary tale about the devastating power of social media and follows three people who struggle to preserve their identities as they form an eccentric love triangle. Coppola also co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Stuart.

Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, When They See Us) has been hired to compose the score for the upcoming biographical drama Respect. The film is directed by Liesl Tommy and stars Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin, as well as Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Marc Maron, Audra McDonald, Tituss Burgess, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner, Saycon Sengbloh, Heather Headley, Tate Donovan and Mary J. Blige. The movie follows the rise of Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom. Tracey Scott Wilson wrote the screenplay based on a story by herself and Callie Khouri (Thelma & Louise, Nashville).
George Fenton Scoring Roger Michell’s ‘The Duke’
George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Ever After, Anna and the King, The Blue Planet) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming British comedy drama The Duke. The film is directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) and stars Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, Fionn Whitehead, Matthew Goode and Anna Maxwell Martin. The movie revolves around a 60 year-old London cab driver who in 1961 stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery, the only robbery in the museum’s history. Richard Bean and Clive Coleman have written the screenplay.

The movie is written by Kemp Powers based on his 2013 stage play of the same title and centers on a 1964 meeting between Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Sam Cooke and Jim Brown.

Germaine Franco (Tag, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Vida, Dope, Little) has composed the original score for the new Netflix original film The Sleepover. The movie is directed by Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect 3) and stars Sadie Stanley, Maxwell Simkins, Ken Marino, Malin Åkerman and Joe Manganiello. The family adventure comedy follows a teen girl and her kid brother who discover that their seemingly normal stay-at-home mom is actually a former high-end thief in the witness protection program. Sarah Rothschild wrote the screenplay.

Phoenix Scoring Sofia Coppola’s ‘On the Rocks’
Phoenix is reteaming with director Sofia Coppola on the upcoming comedy On the Rocks. The French indie pop band has contributed songs and the original score to the film written and directed by Coppola and starring Bill Murray, Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans. They also serve as music supervisors on the movie, which follows a young New York mother and writer who – faced with sudden doubts about her marriage – teams up with her larger-than-life playboy father to tail her husband. The band’s original song Identical is featured in the trailer (embedded below) and is also being released as a digital single today (visit Amazon to stream/download the track).
