Verve Records and Interscope Records have released the original song It Never Went Away from the Netflix original documentary American Symphony. The track co-written and -produced (with Dan Wilson) and performed by Grammy Award- and Academy Award-winning musician/composer Jon Batiste (Soul, The First Wave, She Ball) and is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. American Symphony is directed by Matthew Heineman and explores a year in the life of Batiste as he attempts to compose a symphony while his wife, writer Suleika Jaouad, undergoes cancer treatment.

Matthew Heineman’s ‘The Boy from Medellín’ to Feature Original Music by H. Scott Salinas & Sky Rompiendo
Composer H. Scott Salinas (The Ballad of Lefty Brown, The Banker, Warrior, Sea of Shadows) and songwriter/record producer Sky Rompiendo have contributed the original music to the upcoming documentary The Boy from Medellín. The film is directed by Matthew Heineman and follows Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin as he prepares for his 2019 homecoming concert amid intense political turmoil. Heineman is also producing the project with Juan Camilo Cruz, Myles Estey and Joedan Okun.
‘A Private War’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the full details of the soundtrack album for the drama A Private War. The album features the film’s original score composed by H. Scott Salinas (Cartel Land, Birth of the Dragon, The Ballad of Lefty Brown, The Square). Also included is the original song Requiem for a Private War written and performed by Annie Lennox and co-produced by Salinas. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 2, 2018 and physically the following week. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. A Private War is directed by Matthew Heineman and stars Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan, Stanley Tucci and Tom Hollander. The movie is based on Marie Brenner’s 2012 Vanity Fair story Marie Colvin’s Private War and chronicles the life of the late American-born British war reporter Marie Colvin.
H. Scott Salinas Scoring Matthew Heineman’s ‘A Private War’
H. Scott Salinas is reteaming with director Matthew Heineman on the upcoming biographical drama A Private War. The film starring Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan, Stanley Tucci and Tom Hollander chronicles the life of the late American-born British war reporter Marie Colvin. Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco, The Titan) wrote the screenplay based on Marie Brenner’s 2012 Vanity Fair story Marie Colvin’s Private War. Heineman is also producing the project with Matthew George (Wind River) for Acacia Entertainment, alongside Basil Iwanyk (The Town, Sicario) for Thunder Road Pictures, Marissa McMahon for Kamala Films and Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde) for Denver & Delilah.
‘City of Ghosts’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for Matthew Heineman’s documentary City of Ghosts. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jackson Greenberg and H. Scott Salinas (Birth of the Dragon, The Ivory Game) who previously co-scored Heineman’s Cartel Land. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 21. The download link will be added to this article later this week. City of Ghosts follows the journey of “Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently” – a handful of anonymous activists who banded together after their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up for domestic distribution by Amazon Studios and IFC Films.
