Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla, The Queen) is set to reteam with director Guillermo del Toro on the upcoming psychological thriller Nightmare Alley. The film is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham and stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman and David Strathairn. The movie follows an ambitious young carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words as he hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.

Mac McCaughan of the rock bands Superchunk and Portastatic has composed the original score for the new Netflix original film Moxie. The movie is directed by Amy Poehler (Wine Country) and stars Hadley Robinson, Lauren Tsai, Alycia Pascual-Pena, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Nico Hiraga, Sydney Park, Josephine Langford, Clark Gregg, Anjelika Washington, Josie Totah, Charlie Hall, Sabrina Haskett, as well as Ike Barinholtz and Marcia Gay Harden. The teen comedy drama is based on the novel by Jennifer Mathieu and follows a shy 16-year-old who – inspired by her mom’s rebellious past and a confident new friend – publishes an anonymous zine calling out sexism at her school.
Ramin Djawadi Scoring Keoni Waxman’s ‘The Ravine’
Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Pacific Rim, A Wrinkle in Time) has composed the original music for the upcoming drama The Ravine. The film is written and directed by Keoni Waxman (Hunt to Kill, The Keeper) and stars Eric Dane, Teri Polo, Peter Facinelli, Bryon Mann and Leslie Uggams. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Robert Pascuzzi and follows group of friends who are blindsided by news that someone they trusted has committed a terrible crime and in their quest for answers, they fall on hard times but ultimately must turn toward faith. Robert & Kelly Pascuzzi are producing the project with Phil Goldfine (Gnome Alone, Saving Christmas).
Alfonso de Vilallonga to Score Pablo Berger’s ‘Robot Dreams’
Composer Alfonso de Vilallonga (Transsiberian, The Bookshop, It Snows in Benidorm) is reuniting with director Pablo Berger on the upcoming animated feature Robot Dreams. The movie, which is based on the 2007 graphic novel of the same title by Sara Varon, is set in an imaginary 1980s New York populated by animals with no definable age or gender and tells the story of the friendship between Dog and Robot who become separated during an ill-fated day-trip to Long Island. The movie, which marks Berger’s first animated project and is being produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures (AMP), will also feature popular 1980s pop hits.
Michael Penn to Compose Original Music for Disney+’s ‘Stargirl’ Sequel
THR is reporting that Michael Penn (Girls, Boogie Nights, Masters of Sex, Sunshine Cleaning, The Last Kiss) is set to compose and perform original music for a sequel to last year’s Disney+ original movie Stargirl. He will also serve as the executive music producer on the film, which will be directed by Julia Hart (I’m Your Woman, Fast Color) and star Grace VanderWaal and Elijah Richardson. VanderWaal is also contributing new songs to the YA drama, which follows Stargirl’s journey out of Mica and into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibility. Hart is also co-writing the screenplay with Jordan Horowitz.

Antonio Pinto (City of God, McFarland, USA, Amy, Lord of War, Senna, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind), Gabriel Ferreira & Felipe Kim (The Mechanism) have composed the original score for the new Netflix original documentary Pelé. The film is directed by David Tryhorn & Ben Nicholas and tells the story of iconic footballer Pelé, his quest for perfection and the mythical status he attained. The movie, which features interviews with Pelé himself, Zagallo, Rivellino, Juca Kfouri & Gilberto Gil, looks back at the extraordinary 12-year period in which the football player, the only man to win three World Cup titles, went from young superstar in 1958 to national hero in 1970.
Danny Elfman to Reteam with Sam Raimi on Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’
Composer Danny Elfman has confirmed in a recent interview with Inverse that he will be reteaming with director Sam Raimi on Marvel Studios’ upcoming feature Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams & Chiwetel Ejiofor who reprise their roles from previous Marvel productions. They are joined by Xochitl Gomez who will star as America Chavez. No plot details have been announced yet. Jade Bartlett and Michael Waldron (Heels) wrote the screenplay and Kevin Feige (Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy) is producing the project.

Jessica Weiss (Friendsgiving, Trouble) and Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Onward, Capote) have teamed up to score the upcoming new film adaptation of Cinderella. The movie is written and directed by Kay Cannon (Blockers, Pitch Perfect series) and stars Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Nicholas Galitzine, James Corden, Minnie Driver, John Mulaney, Maddie Baillio, Charlotte Spencer and Pierce Brosnan. The musical comedy reimagines the classic story and centers on the title character as an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow.
Pinar Toprak Scoring Zach Parrish’s Disney Animated Short ‘Us Again’
Disney announced today that Pinar Toprak (Captain Marvel, Krypton, Fortnite, McMillions, The Angel) has composed the original music for the upcoming Disney animated short Us Again. The film directed by Zach Parrish is set in a vibrant city pulsating with rhythm and movement, and follows an elderly man and his young-at-heart wife rekindle their youthful passion for life and each other on one magical night. The movie, which is told entirely without dialogue and set to an original funk and soul musical score reminiscent of the mid-60s, features choreography by dancers Keone and Mari.
Jed Kurzel Scoring Lu Yang’s ‘A Writer’s Odyssey’
Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Snowtown Murders, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, The Babadook, The True History of the Kelly Gang, Overlord) has composed the original music for the new Chinese fantasy epic A Writer’s Odyssey. The film is directed by Lu Yang (Brotherhood of Blades, The Sacrifice) and stars Lei Jiayin, Yang Mi, Dong Zijian, Yu Hewei and Guo Jingfei, as well as Tong Liya and Dong Jie. The movie tells the story of Kongwen Lu, the author of a fantasy novel series following a heroic teenager, also named Kongwen, on a quest to confront Lord Redmane, under the guidance of a Black Armor. But through a strange twist of fate, the fantasy world of the novel begins to impact life in the real world, leading Guan Ning to accept a mission from Tu Ling to kill the author.
