W.G. Snuffy Walden has been hired to score the upcoming CBS drama A Gifted Man. The show is created by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, The Soloist) and stars Patrick Wilson as a well-known surgeon begins seeing his dead ex-wife he starts questioning the meaning of life and his place in the world. Jennifer Ehle, Julie Benz, Liam Aiken and Margo Martindale are co-starring. Carl Beverly and Neal Baer (ER) are executive producing the drama alongside Grant. Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) directed the pilot. A Gifted Man is set to premiere on September 23, 2011 and will be airing on CBS every Friday night.

‘Footloose’ Soundtrack announced
Atlantic Records and Warner Music Nashville have announced the details of the soundtrack release for the upcoming remake of Footloose. The album includes a new version of the title song Footloose performed by country star Blake Shelton. Also featured on the soundtrack are Zac Brown, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lissie, Cee Lo Green feat. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Ella Mae Bowen, Victoria Justice & Hunter Hayes and Big & Rich. Check out the complete track list below. None of the film’s score by Deborah Lurie is included on the album. Footloose is directed by Craig Brewer and stars Kenny Wormaid, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell. The movie will be released on October 14 by Paramount Pictures.
Michael Giacchino and Andrea Datzman to Score Fox’s ‘Alcatraz’
According to Music by Michael Giacchino, the composer has recently recorded music for the pilot of the new FOX drama Alcatraz. While Giacchino is scoring the pilot, Andrea Datzman will be writing the music for the rest of the season. Datzman previously co-scored last year’s J.J. Abrams-produced NBC drama Undercovers with Chris Tilton after Giacchino also scored the pilot. Alcatraz is created by Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) and stars Sarah Jones as a San Francisco detective involved in a grisly homicide case that takes her to America’s most infamous prison, where her prime suspect becomes an inmate who died more than 30 years before. Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) are co-starring.
Aaron Zigman Taking Over ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’
Aaron Zigman has taken over scoring duties on the romantic comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It. He is replacing Rachel Portman who was originally attached to score the movie as reported earlier this summer. The film directed by Douglas McGrath stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Christina Hendricks, Kelsey Grammer, Seth Meyers and Olivia Munn. The comedy follows a working mother who is desperately trying to juggle marriage, children and a high-stress job as a financial executive. Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, Morning Glory) wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Allison Pearson. Zigman has previously scored the Sarah Jessica Parker-starring film adaptations of Sex and the City. I Don’t Know How She Does It is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2011 by The Weinstein Company.
‘Dream House’ Soundtrack Coming in September
Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for the thriller Dream House. The album includes the original score from the movie composed by John Debney. The soundtrack will be released on September 27, 2011. Check back on this page for the full details to be announced in a couple of weeks. Dream House is directed by Jim Sheridan and stars Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts. The movie revolves on on a successful publisher who quits his job in New York and relocates his wife and daughters to a quaint New England town, only to discover that their perfect new home was the murder scene of a mother and her two children. Universal Pictures will release the movie on September 30.
Sony Classical to Release John Williams’ ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ Soundtrack
Film Music Reporter has learned that Sony Classical is the label to release the highly anticipated soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. The album includes the score from the movie by John Williams. The soundtrack marks the composer’s first new film score release in over three years since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. No release date has been set yet, but a release around the movie’s release date overseas in October is expected. The Adventures of Tintin starring Simon Pegg, Daniel Craig, Cary Elwes and Andy Serkis follows Tintin and his friends discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock’s ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.
Marc Streitenfeld Scoring Joe Carnahan’s ‘The Grey’
Marc Streitenfeld is scoring the upcoming action drama The Grey. The movie is directed by Joe Carnahan and star Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, JoeAnderson and James Badge Dale. The film is based on a short story by Ian Jeffers and centers on a group of oil-rig roughnecks who are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves. The project is produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, as well as Carnahan, Jules Daly (The A-Team) and Mickey Liddell (Go, Everwood). Streitenfeld has previously scored Ridley Scott’s last four directorial efforts, as well as last year’s drama Welcome to the Rileys produced by Scott.
‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Soundtrack Set released
La-La Land Records has released a new soundtrack set for the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The 3CD-set features more than three hours of previously unreleased music from the show by composers Dennis McCarthy, Jay Chattaway, Don Davis, John Debney and Fred Steiner. Star Trek: The Next Generation created by Gene Roddenberry and starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Denise Crosby and Wil Wheaton aired from 1987 to 1994 and was the longest-running Star Trek series.

TNT:
The most successful new show of the summer on TNT is the sci-fi series Falling Skies. The project starring Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Sarah Carter and Maxim Knight is produced by Steven Spielberg and centers on an alien invasion of Earth and the resistance formed by the survivor. Also producing are Graham Yost (Justified) and Robert Rodat (writer of Saving Private Ryan). Noah Sorota is scoring the show. ‘Jeff Who Lives at Home’ to feature Music by Michael Andrews
Michael Andrews has composed the score for the upcoming comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home. The movie is written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass who worked with the composer on last year’s indie hit Cyrus starring John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill and Marisa Tomei. Jeff Who Lives at Home stars Jason Segel as a man searching for the meaning of life while on a mundane errand to buy some glue for his mother. Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon and Judy Greer are co-starring. Jason Reitman, Russell Smith and Lianne Halfon (Juno) are producing. The comedy is set to premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.
