Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, The Affair,The Good Shepherd, Ray Donovan, Enough Said) has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller The Equalizer 3. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Magnificent Seven) and stars Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning and David Denman. The sequel follows Robert McCall as he finds himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, where he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses and has to become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia. Richard Wenk (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, The Mechanic) wrote the screenplay. Fuqua & Washington are producing the project with Todd Black (The Pursuit of Happyness, Being the Ricardos), Jason Blumenthal (Southpaw, The Upside), Steve Tisch (Knowing, Pig), Clayton Townsend (Bridesmaids, Fast & Furious 6), Alex Siskin (Troop Zero) and Tony Eldridge. Harry Gregson-Williams has previously scored the first two installments. Zarvos has collaborated with Fuqua on the narrative features Brooklyn’s Finest, The Guilty and last year’s Emancipation, Quibi’s #freerayshawn and the documentaries What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali, The Day Sports Stood Still and Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. The Equalizer 3 is set to be released in theaters nationwide on September 1, 2023 by Sony Pictures.
Zarvos’ other recent projects include George Tillman Jr.’s Big George Foreman, which just opened in theaters last weekend, and Calmatic’s White Men Can’t Jump remake, which will debut on May 19 on Hulu and Eva Longoria’s Flamin’ Hot, which is set to premiere on June 9 on Hulu, as well as Roger Ross Williams’ Cassandro, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is expected to debut on Prime Video later this year.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! It was bad enough hearing that Brian Tyler was not tapped to return for the Expendables 4, and now Harry Gregson-Williams isn’t coming back for this one?! They couldn’t have at least brought in Stephanie Economou or Justin Burnett, both of whom were contributors to the Equalizer soundtracks? Gregson-Williams gave the Equalizer films a unique identity, and now he’s replaced by some fucking nobody? Now I have even less reason to see the film…
I agree with you! It’s a shame and a betrayal!!!
Economou’s working on a DreamWorks film, so she might’ve been unavailable.
And as the article already mentioned, the “some fucking nobody” doing this one worked on Fuqua’s last two films, so it shouldn’t be wholly surprising Fuqua was gonna turn to him and not her if Gregson-Williams wasn’t going to come back.
Harry’s probably busy working on the score for the Chicken Run sequel (a previous flick with WAY more memorable music than anything that was in the two Equalizer movies).
I agree with Dylan. Like K. Branagh and P. Doyle that the franchise needs to end, for the criticize and call the “disgraceful” the decision, time to shut your fucking word now.
And also he scored Brooklyn Finest too. Don’t to be salty for the decision.
