Three new movies have opened in theaters nationwide this past Wednesday:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Encanto directed by Byron Howard & Jared Bush and starring Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero,Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Rhenzy Feliz, Mauro Castillo and Carolina Gaitan. The film’s original score is composed by Germaine Franco (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Dope, Tag, Little) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton, In the Heights) has written the movie’s original songs. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs and score last Friday and a CD version will be coming out next month. Also opening wide is the biographical crime drama House of Gucci directed by Ridley Scott and starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Reeve Carney, Jack Huston, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek and Al Pacino. Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Shrek, Mulan, Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire, The Town) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records & Decca Records are set to release a soundtrack album according to the movie’s end credits, but no announcement has been made yet. Also opening nationwide is the horror reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City written and directed by Johannes Roberts and starring Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Avan Jogia, Neal McDonough, Tom Hopper and Donal Logue. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Korven (The Witch, The Lighthouse, Cube, The Terror: Infamy, Them, In the Tall Grass). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday. Opening in select theaters in Los Angeles and New York today before opening nationwide on December 25 is the coming-of-age comedy drama Licorice Pizza written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring. Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread, The Power of the Dog, Spencer, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice) has composed the film’s original score. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring a track from Greenwood’s score, as well as songs by artists such as David Bowie, The Doors, Nina Simone, Sonny & Cher, Donovan, Paul McCartney, Chuck Berry, Gordon Lightfoot & others today. Already playing in select theaters since Wednesday while also premiering on Shotime is the drama The Humans written and directed by Stephen Karam and starring Steven Yeun, Beanie Feldstein, Amy Schumer, Jayne Houdyshell, Richard Jenkins and June Squibb. The film’s original music is composed by Nico Muhly (The Reader, Kill Your Darlings, Margaret, Howards End, Joshua, How to Talk to Girls at Parties). No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters this week before premiering on Netflix on December 10 is the drama The Unforgivable directed by Nora Fingscheidt and starring Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Rob Morgan,Vincent D’Onofrio, Aisling Franciosi, Jon Bernthal and Richard Thomas. Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception) & David Fleming (Hillbilly Elegy, Blue Planet II, South of Heaven) have composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score is in the works. Also opening in select theaters this week before premiering on Netflix on November 30 is the animated feature The Summit of the Gods (Le sommet des dieux) directed by Patrick Imbert and starring Lazare Herson-Macarel, Éric Herson-Macarel, Elisabeth Ventura, Damien Boisseau and Kylian Rehlinger. The film’s original music is composed by Amine Bouhafa (Timbuktu, The Man Who Sold His Skin A Son, Beauty and the Dogs). 22D Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today.
