Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the family movie Dolphin Tale 2 written and directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Harry Connick, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Austin Stowell. The film’s original music is composed by Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the thriller No Good Deed directed by Sam Miller and starring Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo and Henry Simmons. Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Halt and Catch Fire, The Girl Next Door) has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the crime thriller The Drop directed by Michaël Roskam and starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, James Gandolfini, Matthia Schoenaerts, John Ortiz, Ann Dowd and James Frecheville. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker). No soundtrack album has been announced, but three tracks from the score can be checked out on Soundcloud. The movie follows a lonely bartender through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Opening in select theaters is the indie drama The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them written and directed by Ned Benson and starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Viola Davis, Ryan Eggold, Bill Hader, Isabelle Huppert and William Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Son Lux. Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film. The full details will be posted on this page soon. The Disapperance of Eleanor Rigby: Them premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released by the Weinstein Company. The original cuts The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and Her premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be released seperately as a a double feature next month.
Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy drama The Skeleton Twins co-written and directed by Craig Johnson and starring Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell and Boyd Holbrook. Nathan Larson (Boys Don’t Cry, Pretty Dirty Things, Our Idiot Brother) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The Skeleton Twins follows two twins who unexpectedly reconnect and confront why their lives went so wrong. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Roadside Attractions/Lionsgate for U.S. distribution. To learn more about the film, visit the official movie website.
Another limited release this week is the drama Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt? directed by James Namera and starring Laura Regan and Rob Morrow as protagonists Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden. Elia Cmiral (Ronin, Battlefield Earth) who previously scored the first part in the Atlas Shrugged movie series has composed the music for the third and final part. Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy drama My Old Lady written and directed by Israel Horovitz and starring Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Maggie Smith. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Orton (Nebraska, The Good Girl). BAG Production will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a track by the acoustic chamber group Tin Hat and a track by the jazz ensemble The Hot Club of San Francisco. Also opening in limited release is the horror thriller Honeymoon co-written and directed by Leigh Janiak and starring Rose Leslie, Harry Treadaway, Ben Huber and Hanna Brown. The film’s original music is composed by Heather McIntosh (Compliance, Faults). No word yet on a soundtrack release. Honeymoon follows a young newlywed couple who travel to remote lake country for their honeymoon, where the husband finds his wife wandering and disoriented in the middle of the night. The movie premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing for domestic distribution. Also opening in select theaters is the horror thriller At the Devil’s Door written and directed by Nicholas McCarthy and starring Naya Rivera, Ashley Rickards, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Wyatt Russell and Ava Acres. Another limited release this week is the documentary The Green Prince directed by Nadiv Schirman. The film’s original music is composed by Max Richter (Waltz with Bashir, The Leftovers, Disconnect). No soundtrack album has been announced. The Greem Prince is set against the backdrop of recent events in the Middle East and tells the true story of the son of a Hamas leader who emerged as one of Israel’s prized informants, and the Shin Bet agent who risked his career to protect him. Also opening in select cities is the French drama Bird People directed by Pascale Ferran and starring Josh Charles, Anais Demoustier, Roschdy Zem, Camelia Jordana, Geoffrey Cantor, Clark Johnson, Taklyt Vongdara, Radha Mitchell and Mathieu Amalric. Béatrice Thiriet (Lady Chatterley) has composed the film’s original music. Cristal Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as David Bowie’s Space Oddity and Feist’s Anti Pioneer earlier this summer in France.
