Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the drama Trouble with the Curve directed by Robert Lorenz and starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Matthew Lillard and Scott Eastwood. The film’s score is written by Academy Award-nominated composer Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring Beltrami’s score digitally earlier this week. A physical version is scheduled to come out on October 16. Also opening wide is the action thriller End of Watch written and directed by David Ayer and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, America Ferrera, Frank Grillo, David Harbour and Cody Horn. David Sardy (21, Zombieland, Premium Rush) has composed the film’s score. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a number of songs from the film including Public Enemy’s new track Harder Than You Think. Another wide release this weekend is the comic book adaptation Dredd 3D directed by Pete Travis, written by Alex Garland and starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Jason Cope and Domhnall Gleeson. The film’s score is composed by Paul Leonard-Morgan (Limitless). A soundtrack album including the composer’s music has been released on Metropolis Movie Music. The final film to be released nationwide this week is the horror thriller House at the End of the Street directed by Mark Tonderai and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Shue, Max Thieriot and Gil Bellows. The film’s music is written by British composer Theo Green. The movie follows a newly divorced mother and her daughter who find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town, but have to learn that the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen. Opening in limited release is the coming-of-age drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower directed by Stephen Chbosky and starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd, Kate Walsh, Nina Dobrev, Mae Whitman and Dylan McDermott. The film’s score is composed by Michael Brook (The Fighter, Into the Wild). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs and one track from the score earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the indie drama About Cherry directed by Stephen Elliot and starring Ashley Hinshaw, James Franco, Heather Graham, Dev Patel, Jonny Weston and Lili Taylor. Jeff Russo (Necessary Roughness) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie centers on a troubled 18-year old girl who moves to San Francisco, where she gets involved in pornography and aligns herself with a cocaine-addicted lawyer. The film premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and has been picked up by IFC Films. The independent production is also currently available on VOD. Another limited release this weekend is the documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel directed by Immordino Vreeland about the fashion and beauty icon Diana Vreeland, who launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O and coined some of fashion’s most eloquent proverbs. The film’s music is composed by Paul Cantelon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Other Boleyn Girl). No soundtrack album has been announced. The documentary premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films for a theatrical release. Click here to watch the film’s trailer.
Also opening in select cities is the romantic action comedy You May Not Kiss the Bride directed by Rob Hedden and starring Dave Annable, Katherine McPhee, Mena Suvari, Rob Schneider and Kathy Bates. The film’s score is composed by Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, The Odd Life of Timothy Green). A soundtrack album is in the works and details will be announced on this site in the near future. The movie follows a pet photographer who is forced to marry a Croatian mobster’s daughter and spend his honeymoon at a secluded Tahitian resort where the bride is kidnapped. Another comedy opening in limited release is My Uncle Rafael directed by Marc Fusco and starring John Michael Higgins, Missi Pyle, Anthony Clark, Vahik Pirhamzei, Rachel Blanchard, Joe Lo Truglio, Carly Chaikin and Ursula Taherian. Joey Newman (The Middle) and Chris Westlake (Transit) have composed the film’s score. La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the score next Tuesday. The final limited release of the week is the indie romance Backwards directed by Ben Hickernell and starring Sarah Megan Thomas, James Van Der Beek, Margaret Colin and Glenn Morshower. The film’s score is composed by David Torn (Lars and the Real Girl, Friday Night Lights). No soundtrack album has been announced at this point. The movie follows Abi Brooks, a fiercely competitive rower who fails to make the Olympic boat for a second time and reluctantly takes a job coaching rowers at a high school where her boss happens to be her ex-boyfriend.
