John Williams revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he will compose the theme for the title character for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. As reported this past summer, John Powell is composing the score for the movie directed by Ron Howard and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi) and Jon Kasdan wrote the screenplay. Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, The Sixth Sense) is producing the project with Allison Shearmur (Cinderella) and Simon Emanuel (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

Lucasfilm announced today that John Powell will score the untitled Han Solo movie. The film is directed by Ron Howard who took over directing duties from Chris Miller and Phil Lord and stars Alden Ehrenreich in the title role, alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo. Lorne Balfe to Score Nat Geo’s ‘Genius’
Lorne Balfe has been hired to score the National Geographic Channel’s first scripted series Genius. The show’s first season is based on Walter Isaacson’s book Einstein: His Life and Universe and stars Geoffrey Rush as Albert Einstein. Ron Howard (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Backdraft) is directing the first episode of the drama, which chronicles how an imaginative, rebellious patent clerk, who couldn’t get a teaching job or a doctorate, unlocked the mysteries of the atom and the universe. Johnny Flynn co-stars as Einstein in the years before he rose to international attention and acclaim. Noah Pink has adapted Isaacson’s book for the Fox 21 Television production.
Ron Howard’s ‘Inferno’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel Inferno. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean) who previous scored the first two movies in the series, Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. The soundtrack, which has a run time of 71 minutes, will be released on October 7, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Inferno is directed by Ron Howard and stars Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Ben Foster and Sidse Babett Knudsen.
‘In the Heart of the Sea’ Soundtrack Details
WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album for Ron Howard’s action adventure drama In the Heart of the Sea. The album features the film’s original music composed by Roque Banos (The Machinist, Evil Dead, Sexy Beast, Oldboy) who recorded his score with the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack will be released on December 4, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. In the Heart of the Sea stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland, Jordi Mollá, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson. The movie is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick and follows a whaling ship that is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home.
Hans Zimmer to Score Ron Howard’s ‘Inferno’
Hans Zimmer is officially set to reteam with director Ron Howard on the upcoming film adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestselling novel Inferno. Tom Hanks returns to reprise his role as Robert Langdon and is joined by Felicity Jones as Dr. Sienna Brooks, Irrfan Khan as Harry Sims, Omar Sy as Christoph Bruder and Sidse Babett Knudsen as Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey. The movie follows the Harvard symbolist as he wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia and teams up with a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s immortal tome. David Koepp (Spider-Man, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds) has written the screenplay.

Roque Banos has been hired to score the upcoming action drama In the Heart of the Sea. The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Keeley, Ben Whishaw, Charlotte Riley and Tom Holland. The movie is based on a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick and follows a whaling ship that is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home. Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-Pax) has adapted the material for the screen. Howard’s producing partner Brian Grazer, Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman), Paula Weinstein (The Perfect Storm, Blood Diamond) and William Ward are producing the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow production. Howard has previously collaborated with such composers as James Horner (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Cocoon), John Williams (Far and Away), Thomas Newman (Cinderella Man) and Randy Newman (Parenthood).
Hans Zimmer Interviews at ‘Rush’ World Premiere
Hans Zimmer attended last night’s red carpet world premiere of Ron Howard’s racing drama Rush in London. Two interviews with the composer from the event have appeared online. Talking with Red Carpet News TV, Zimmer talked about his work on the film starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl, as well as his possible involvement in the upcoming Superman/Batman film directed by Zack Snyder, which set for a release in 2015. The composer also briefly mentions that he is currently working on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
