Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the upcoming indie comedy drama Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The album features one track from the film’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen and Jonathan Sadoff, as well as numerous songs by artists including The Beach Boys, INXS, French Kicks, Frank Black, PM Down, The Walker Brothers, The Hollies, Wang Chung, Scissor Sisters and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. The soundtrack will be released on June 19, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is directed by Lorene Scafaria and stars Steve Carrell, Keira Knightley, William Peterson, Adam Brody, Connie Briton, Melanie Lynskey , T.J. Miller, Patton Oswalt, Rob Corddry, Derek Luke, Rob Huebel, Lindsay Sloane and Gillian Jacobs.

Only one movie is opening in wide release this weekend:
Already beating box office records is the comic book adaptation The Avengers written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s score is composed by Alan Silvestri. The composer’s score has been released digitally on Hollywood Records and in an expanded form on CD by Intrada Records. A separate soundtrack featuring songs from and inspired by the film, including Soundgarden’s end credits song Live to Rise has also been released (click here for more information).
Opening in limited release is the comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel and Tom Wilkinson. Thomas Newman has composed the film’s music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released by Sony Classical earlier this week in the US. Rob Simonsen to Score ‘Imogene’ and ‘The English Teacher’
Rob Simonsen has been hired to score the upcoming indie comedy Imogene. The film is directed by Shari Springer Sperman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor) and stars Kristen Wiig as a New York playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to end up being forced into the custody of her gambling-addict mother. Annette Benning, Darren Criss, Natasha Lyonne, June Diane Raphae and Matt Dillon are co-starring. Michelle Morgan has written the screenplay and Alix Madigan (Winter’s Bone), Celine Rattray (The Kids Are All Right) and Trudie Style are producing the Anonymous Content and Maven Pictures production.
Rob Simonsen & Jonathan Sadoff Scoring ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’
Rob Simonsen and Jonathan Sadoff are scoring the romantic comedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The movie stars Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley as two neighbors who embark on a road trip to find the former’s high school sweetheart before an incoming asteroid ends all life on Earth. William Peterson, Adam Brody, Connie Briton, Melanie Lynskey , T.J. Miller, Patton Oswalt, Rob Corddry, Derek Luke, Rob Huebel, Lindsay Sloane and Gillian Jacobs are co-starring. The film is written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (screenwriter of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) who makes her directorial debut on the project. Steve Golin (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel) & Joy Gorman of Anonymous Content and Steven Rales (Moonrise Kingdom) & Mark Royba (Doubt, Shaft) of Indian Paintbrush are producing.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Already beating box office records is the fantasy sequel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The film’s music is composed by Alexandre Desplat who scored his second Harry Potter film. A soundtrack album featuring Desplat’ score has been released on Watertower Music (click here for our soundtrack announcement including audio clips). Also opening wide is Walt Disney Pictures’ animated film Winnie the Pooh. Henry Jackman composed the score for the movie. A soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s score, the film’s songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and an original song by Zooey Deschanel has been released on Walt Disney Records. Rob Simonsen scoring ‘LOL’
Rob Simonsen has been hired to score the upcoming comedy LOL. The film is written and directed by Lisa Azuelos and is a remake of her French 2008 film LOL (Laughing Out Loud) ® starring Sophie Marceau. The comedy stars Miley Cyrus, Ashley Greene, Thomas Jane and Demi Moore. The movie takes place in a world dominated by social media and centers on a teenage girl who is dumped by her older boyfriend while her divorced mother struggles to move on with her life. No release date has been set, but it is expected to be released later this year by Lionsgate.

The Warrior’s Way starring Dong-gun Jang, Danny Huston, Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth features a score by Javier Navarrete. In the movie, a warrior-assassin is forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands after refusing a mission. No soundtrack release has been announced so far.
