David Poland from Movie City News has published a 30-minutes video interview with composer Patrick Doyle in his DP/30 series. During the interview, Doyle discusses his work on Brave and how he got involved in his first project for Pixar. The composer also talks about how he got started in the industry (both as an actor and composer), his early film scores and some of his frequent collaborators including Kenneth Branagh and Regis Wargnier. Also discussed is his only collaboration with Garry Marshall on the 1994 film Exit to Eden. Check out the full video interview after the jump. Michael Giacchino on ‘Cars 2’
Michael Giacchino has been doing a lot of interviews lately about his score for Pixar’s animated film Cars 2. The Pixar Podcast recently featured a 30-minute conversation with Giacchino talking about his work on the Pixar film, his collaboration with director John Lasseter, the difference between working on film and TV, his thematic approach and his thoughts on today’s film music. ‘Cars 2’ Soundtrack Update
A press release from Disney has announced the contents of the upcoming soundtrack release of Pixar’s Cars 2. Apart from 21 tracks of Michael Giacchino‘s original score, the album also includes a song written by the composer and performed by French singer/songwriter Bénabar. The song is called Mon coeur fait vroum (My Heart Goes Vroom) and is providing a musical introduction to Paris in the animation sequel. Also included on the soundtrack is the American alternative rock band Weezer, performing their own take of the 1984 pop hit You Might Think. Country superstar Brad Paisley, who was a major contributor to the first Cars soundtrack, returns with two new songs, including the duet Collisions of World, performed by Paisley and singer/songwriter Robbie Williams. Finally, the hit single Polyrhythm by the Japanese girl band Perfume is also featured on the release. The soundtrack will be released on June 14. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon.
Michael Giacchino’s ‘Cars 2’ Soundtrack announced
Walt Disney Records has announced a soundtrack album for the Pixar animation sequel Cars 2. The album includes Michael Giacchino’s original score from the film. According to the Pixar Blog, there will also be two original songs featured on the album, including a duet by two male artists. The soundtrack will be released on June 14, 2011 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. A track list for the album will be posted when it gets published. Movieweb recently interviewed Giacchino about the project at a press event at Pixar’s Emeryville, California facility. Patrick Doyle Confirmed to Score Pixar’s ‘Brave’ and ‘Rise of the Apes’
Film Music Reporter has received official confirmation that Patrick Doyle is attached to score the upcoming Pixar animation movie Brave. Pixar’s first fairy tale and first female-driven feature tells the story of an impulsive princess who aims to shed her royal ties and become the world’s first great female archer. It was recenly announced that Kelly Macdonald will be voicing the main character. The film’s voice cast also includes Emma Thompson, Craig Ferguson and Billy Connolly. Brave is directed by Mark Andrews who worked as story supervisor on The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The project marks Doyle’s first collaboration with Pixar. Doyle follows Randy Newman, Thomas Newman and Michael Giacchino as the fourth composer scoring a feature animation film for the studio.
Mark Mothersbaugh to Score ‘Safe’
Film Music Reporter has learned that Mark Mothersbaugh has been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Safe. In the movie, a former elite agent rescues a young Chinese girl carrying vital secrets that both the Chinese and Russian Mafia are intent on obtaining in order to blackmail world governments. The film starring Jason Statham, Chris Sarandon and Robert John Burke is directed by Boaz Yakin. Yakin previously worked with composers Trevor Rabin (Remember the Titans), Joel McNeely (Uptown Girls), Lesley Barber (A Price Above Rubies, Death in Love) and Stewart Copeland (Fresh) on his earlier movies. The film is produced by Lawrence Bender (producer on all Quentin Tarantino-directed movies), as well as Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey (The Social Network) through their company Trigger Street Productions.
