Sony Classical has announced the album A Gathering of Friends, an all-new recording of two concert works by Academy Award winner John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) written for cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Also included are selections of Williams’ film scores from Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, Lincoln and Munich conducted by the composer himself and performed by the New York Philharmonic. The recording also includes special appearances by the Spanish guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas and harpist Jessica Zhou. The album w ill be released digitally and physically on May 20 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A first track (Theme from Schindler’s List) is already available to stream/download now. ‘The Fury’ Digital Soundtrack Album Released
RCA Records has released a digital version of the original soundtrack album for the 1978 thriller The Fury directed by Brian De Palma and starring Kirk Douglas, John Cassavetes, Charles Durning and Amy Irving. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial). The release coincides with the recent appearance of the composer’s main title track in the Season 2 finale of HBO’s Euphoria (listen to the track below). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on all major digital music platforms, including Amazon.
Disney+’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ TV Series to Feature Theme by John Williams
Variety has confirmed that John Williams has recorded a theme for the upcoming Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The composer has recorded the theme last week with a Los Angeles orchestra. The show is written by Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Underground), directed by Deborah Chow (The High Cost of Living) and stars Ewan McGregor in the title role and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. They are joined by Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. The 6-part drama takes place ten years after events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat – the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
John Williams to Reteam with Steven Spielberg on ‘The Fabelmans’
Variety has confirmed that John Williams is reteaming with Steven Spielberg on the upcoming drama The Fabelmans. The composer is currently scoring the film and will be recording his music next month in Los Angeles. The movie, which is loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood, stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Paul Dano and Gabriel LaBelle. Spielberg also co-wrote the screenplay with Tony Kushner (Munich, West Side Story).
Remastered and Expanded ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ & ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ Soundtracks Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1971 musical comedy Fiddler on the Roof directed by Norman Jewison and starring Topol, Norma Crane, Leonard Frey, Paul Mann and Molly Picon. The album features the film’s music adapted and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Schindler’s List, Jaws, Home Alone) who received his first Academy Award for his work on the project. The 3-CD set, which is limited to 5,000 copies, includes the remastered original soundtrack recording program on the first disc, alternate versions on the second disc and early “playback” versions of the songs, as well as selections of Williams’ underscore and other musical material released for the first time on the third disc. The 50th Anniversary Edition will be available to purchase on the label’s official website on Tuesday, November 30. ‘The Time Tunnel’ Soundtrack Collection Vol. 2 Announced
La-La Land Records has announced the details of the second volume collection of original music from the 60s sci-fi series The Time Tunnel created by Irwin Allen and starring James Darren, Robert Colbert, John Zaremba, Whit Bissell and Lee Meriwether. The album features music from the show composed by John Williams (as Johnny Williams) (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark), Leith Stevens (The War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide), Joseph Mullendore (Lost in Space, Land of the Giants), Paul Sawtell (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Jack the Giant Killer), Robert Drasnin (Mission: Impossible, Lost in Space) and George Duning (3:10 to Yuma, Star Trek: The Original Series). Featured episodes include Revenge of the Gods, Massacre, Reign of Terror, Secret Weapon, The Death Trap and The Death Merchant.

The Extra-Terrestrial), including the world premiere release of the complete score on the first disc and a remastered version of the original soundtrack album, as well as bonus tracks on the second disc. La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1989 romance fantasy drama Always directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, Brad Johnson and Audrey Hepburn. The album features the expanded and remastered original score from the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment production composed and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, E.T.), including previously unreleased music and alternate cues. The CD, which is limited to 3,500 copies, will be available to order on the label’s official website at noon today. MCA Records has released the original 1990 soundtrack album featuring twelve score tracks and six songs from the movie.
Remastered Soundtrack Album for Robert Altman’s ‘Images’ Announced
Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1972 psychological horror drama Images directed by Robert Altman and starring Susannah York, René Auberjonois, Marcel Bozzuffi and Cathryn Harrison. The album features the remastered Academy Award-nominated original score from the film composed and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial) and percussion by Japanese experimental musician Stomu Yamash’ta. The CD, which marks the first official release of the score approved by the composer himself, is limited to 2,000 copies and is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also find out more details and check out audio samples.
John Williams to Score James Mangold’s ‘Indiana Jones 5’
Lucasfilm has confirmed today that John Williams is set to return as the composer of the currently untitled fifth installment in the Indiana Jones film series. The movie will be directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v. Ferrari, 3:10 to Yuma) and stars Harrison Ford in the title role, alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge. No other cast members or plot details have been announced yet. The composer was previously attached to score the fifth installment when Steven Spielberg was set to direct the film in 2016 . Spielberg is producing the new movie with Kathleen Kennedy (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Frank Marshall (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Sixth Sense) and Simon Emanuel (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Witcher).
