Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) has been hired to score the upcoming period drama Ashes in the Snow. The film is directed by Marius Markevicius (The Other Dream Team) and stars Bel Powley, Jonah Hauer-King, Martin Wallstrom, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Sophie Cookson, Peter Franzen, Sam Hazeldine, James Cosmo, Adrian Schiller and Tom Sweet. The movie is based on Ruta Sepetys’ best-selling novel Between Shades of Gray and follows a 16-year-old girl who is forced to live in a Siberian work camp amid Stalin’s reign of terror in the Baltic region and attempts to use her art to send messages to her imprisoned father. Ben York Jones (Like Crazy, Breathe In) has written the screenplay.

‘Deutschland. Made in Germany’ Soundtrack Details
Needlewood Records will release a soundtrack album for the German documentary Deutschland. Made in Germany (Deutschland. Dein Selbstporträt). The album features the film’s original music composed by Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann) (Lion, The Boy, In Dubious Battle), as well as the original song Another Day in Life by Hauschka & Graham Candy. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, July 15, and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Deutschland. Made in Germany is directed by Sönke Wortmann (The Miracle of Bern, Pope Joan) who invited the people of Germany to film themselves on June 20 of last year, for anything ranging from just a few seconds to the entire day.
Hauschka Scoring James Franco’s ‘In Dubious Battle’
Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) has recently composed the music for the upcoming indie drama In Dubious Battle. The film is directed by James Franco who also stars in the movie alongside Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Nat Wolff, Josh Hutcherson, Zach Braff, Analeigh Tipton, Ashley Greene, Ahna O’Reilly John Savage and Sam Shepard. The movie is based on John Steinbeck’s 1936 novel of the same title and centers on a labor conflict between migrant apple pickers and the local growers’ association in a California valley. Matt Rager (The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying) has written the screenplay.
Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka Scoring Garth Davis’ ‘Lion’
Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) are currently scoring the upcoming drama Lion. The film is directed by Garth Davis (Top of the Lake) and stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, Divian Ladwa, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval. The film is based on the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley and centers on a street kid from Calcutta who is taken in and adopted by a couple in Australia. Luke Davies (Candy, Life) has written the screenplay. Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech, Iain Canning (Shame, Mr. Holmes, Macbeth) and Angie Fielder (Wish You Were Here) are producing the project.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the biographical drama Straight Outta Compton directed by F. Gary Gray and starring O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Ice Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Aldis Hodge as MC Ren, Neil Brown, Jr. as DJ Yella and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A.’s manager Jerry Heller. The film’s original score is composed by Joseph Trapanese (Insurgent, Oblivion, Earth to Echo). Dr. Dre has released his first record in 16 years inspired by the movie last Friday. ‘The Boy’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for the horror thriller The Boy have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music written by German modern pianist and composer Hauschka. The soundtrack will be released on September 4, 2015 by Milan Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Boy is written and directed by Craig Macneill and stars Jared Breeze, Rainn Wilson, David Morse, Mike Vogel, Zuleikha Robinson and Bill Sage. The movie is the first part a planned trilogy tracking the childhood of a future serial killer, with each installment depicting the character at a different wage, and ending with his full transformation to an iconic mass murderer.
