Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the thriller Killing Them Softly directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Scott McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Vincent Curatola, Max Casella and Sam Shepard. While the film doesn’t feature a full score, Marc Streitenfeld (Prometheus, American Gangster) is credited as providing piano pieces and musical ambiances. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring one track by Streitenfeld, as well as the film’s songs by artists including Carl Stone, The Velvet Underground, James Wilsey, Nico, Kitty Lester and The Wreckery. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Collection directed by Marcus Dunstan and starring Josh Stewart, Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald and Emma Fitzpatrick. Charlie Clouser (Saw series, Numbers) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released. The movie is a sequel to the 2009 horror film The Collector and is being distributed by LD Entertainment. Charlie Clouser to Score ‘The Collection’

Charlie Clouser is scoring the upcoming horror thriller The Collection. The movie is the sequel to the 2009 horror film The Collector and is directed by Marcus Dunstan (who also wrote the screenplay for the Clouser-scored Saw IV, V, VI and The Final Chapter). The film stars Josh Stewart, Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald and Emma Fitzpatrick. Dunstan has co-written the script with Patrick Melton, his writing partner on the Saw series. Brett Forbes & Patrick Rizzotti (Pride) and Julie Richardson (Collateral) are producing the film. The project marks Clouser’s first feature assignment since the final installment of the Saw series. Mickey Liddell’s LD Distribution company is planning a theatrical release later this year.

Fall 2011 Television Music Roundup (Part 6): Cable

In our sixth and final part of our fall television series, we are taking a look at the major new shows on the cable networks:

One of this fall’s most talked about new shows is American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and starring Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare. The series has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Drama and for Lange’s performance. The show’s score is composed by James Levine who has worked on most of Murphy’s projects in the last decade, including Nip/Tuck, Glee and the feature film Running with Scissors. The drama has also been using a lot of pre-existing score music from composers such as Bernard Herrmann and Alan Silvestri. The series’ opening theme is written by Charlie Clouser (Saw, Numbers) and sound designer Cesar Davila-Irizarry. Visit EW.com for more information and to watch the opening credits sequence.
