The only new movie opening nationwide this weekend is the slasher thriller Halloween co-written and directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner and Nick Castle. The film’s original music is composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Sacred Bones Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in limited release is the coming-of-age comedy drama Mid90s written and directed by Jonah Hill and starring Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges, Na-kel Smith, Gio Galicia, Ryder McLaughlin, Alexa Demie, Katherine Waterston and Olan Prenatt. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Patriots Day) have composed the film’s original score. Nate Heller is reteaming with director Marielle Heller to score the upcoming comedy Can You Ever Forgive Me?. The film starring Melissa McCarthy, Richard E. Grant, Jane Curtin, Dolly Wells, Anna Deavere Smith and Jennifer Westfeldt is based on Lee Israel’s memoir of the same title and revolves around the journalist who had fallen on hard times in the early 90s and began selling letters that she had forged from deceased writers and actors. Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said, Friends with Money) wrote the screenplay. Anne Carey (Mr. Holmes, Adventureland, The American) and Amy Nauiokas (10’000 Saints) are producing the project with David Yarnell.
