Leslie Bricusse has passed away at age 90. The Grammy Award-winning composer, lyricist and playwright wrote numerous songs and scores for stage and screen over the last six decades. He received two Academy Awards for the song Talk to the Animals from 1967’s original Doctor Dolittle and (in the Best Music, Original Song Score and Its Adaptation or Best Adaptation Score category) for 1982’s Victor/Victoria (shared with Henry Mancini). He was also Oscar-nominated for his Doctor Dolittle score, 1969’s Goodbye Mr. Chips, a song (Thank You Very Much) and score from 1970’s Scrooge, 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the original songs Life in a Looking Glass from 1986’s That’s Life (co-written with Mancini), Somewhere in My Memory from 1990’s Home Alone and When You’re Alone from 1991’s Hook (with John Williams).
