Film Music Reporter has learned that James Newton Howard recently started scoring the upcoming comedy drama Larry Crowne. The movie is directed by Tom Hanks and stars himself as a middle-aged man, who reinvents himself after losing his job by going back to college. The movie also stars Julia Roberts, Taraji P. Henson and Pam Grier. James Newton Howard previously scored the pairing of Hanks and Roberts in Charlie Wilson’s War and scored numerous movies starring Julia Roberts including Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Bride, America’s Sweethearts and most recently Duplicity. The movie’s screenplay is co-written by Hanks and Nia Vardalos, whose hit indie comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding was produced by Hanks. Universal Pictures will release Larry Crowne next summer on July 1, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »

Two new movies in wide release this weekend:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader featuring a score by David Arnold opens in most theaters. A soundtrack album has been released by Sony Masterworks. Deadline Hollywood reported this week that composer Alan Menken has teamed with lyricist David Zippel and comedy writer Marco Pennette for a musical comedy set up at ABC. The show is described as St. Elmo’s Fire meets Rent and centers on a young female musician living with other musicians as they try to make their way into the world. Unlike the currently airing musical TV hit show Glee and other musical TV show in development, Menken’s untitled project would feature in 2-3 songs in every episode, which given network TV’s usual yearly episode order of 22 or more would make it an extremely ambitious undertaking. Aaron Zigman has been hired to score the upcoming comedy What’s Your Number? The comedy stars Anna Faris, Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Ryan Phillippe. The film is directed by Mark Mylod, who previously directed the features Ali G Indahouse and The Big White, as well as episodes of several TV shows including United States of Tara, Entourage and the upcoming Showtime show Shameless starring William H. Macy. What’s Your Number? centers around a woman, who looks back at the past twenty men she’s had relationships with in her life and wonders if one of them might be her one true love. 20th Century Fox will release the movie on April 29, 2011. David Hirschfelder is attached to score the upcoming action adventure Sanctum. The movie is produced by James Cameron and will be one of the first 3D movies that was shot in 3D and not going through a post-production conversion. In the movie, an underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world. The movie stars Ioann Gruffud, Richard Roxburgh and Alice Parkinson. Sanctum marks another big assignment for Hirschfelder, who scored Zack Snyder’s Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole earlier this year. Read the rest of this entry »
Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Mychael Danna will be scoring the upcoming TV show Camelot. According to Collider, the epic period drama takes a fresh approach to the powerful story of the legendary King Arthur , weaving it with the authenticity of the most classic medieval tale of all time. The show’s cast includes Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Tamsin Eggerton and Claire Forlani. According to our sources, the show’s budget allows for an orchestral score. The fantasy drama is expected to air in the spring of 2011 on Starz. The first season will have 10 episodes, while more seasons are already being planned. Read the rest of this entry »

The soundtrack album includes 22 tracks from Badelt’s score, all of which can be previewed and downloaded for free on the page. Apart from downloading the score in 320k mp3 or FLAC format, you can also order a physical CD on the webpage. Point Blank is directed by Fred Cavaye, who previously worked with Badelt on the 2008 thriller Anything for You (Pour elle), which recently has been remade in Hollywood as The Next Three Days starring Russell Crowe and scored by Danny Elfman.
