Lakeshore Records has announced two different soundtrack albums for the romantic comedy No Strings Attached directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. A score album to be released on February 15, 2011 features the original score from John Debney. Two tracks from the score (Golf Date and I Love You/The Kiss) are currently available on John Debney’s Facebook Fanpage. ‘The Last Lions’ to feature music by Alex Wurman

Alex Wurman has recently finished scoring the National Geographic Entertainment-produced documentary The Last Lions. In the movie, filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert follow the epic journey of the lioness named Ma di Tau (“Mother of Lions”) as she battles to protect her cubs against the daunting onslaught of enemies to ensure their survival. The documentary is narrated by Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons. The Last Lions marks Wurman’s first documentary after scoring the Oscar-winning 2005 hit The March of the Penguins. Film Music Reporter has learned that Antonio Pinto is the composer on the upcoming action drama How I Spent My Summer Vacation. The movie marks the directorial debut of Adrian Grunberg, who previously served as assistant director on such movies as Traffic, Frida and Apocalypto. The film stars Mel Gibson, Peter Stormare and Bob Gunton. Gibson also shares writing credit on the movie for the third time after The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the five nominations in the ‘original music’ category for this year’s ceremony.
The nominations are:
- 127 Hours (A.R. Rahman)
- Alice in Wonderland (Danny Elfman)
- How to Train Your Dragon (John Powell)
- Inception (Hans Zimmer)
- The King’s Speech (Alexandre Desplat)
The BAFTA Awards show will take place on Sunday, February 13 at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.

Christopher Young is scoring the upcoming horror action horror thriller Priest. The movie involves a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who kidnapped his niece. The film stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Lily Collins, Stephen Moyer and Christopher Plummer. Priest is directed by Scott Charles Stewart who previously directed last year’s Legion with music by John Frizzell. Screen Gems has scheduled a May 13, 2011 release date for the 3D picture. ‘The Rite’ soundtrack details

Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack for the upcoming horror thriller The Rite directed by Mikael Hafstrom and starring Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue and Alice Braga. The album includes 13 tracks of Alex Heffes’ original score and has has a running time of around 56 minutes. The soundtrack will come out on January 25 as a download release, with a physical CD to follow on February 8 (click here to pre-order the CD). Reznor and Ross win Golden Globe for ‘Best Score’

Trent Reznor’s and Atticus Ross’ score for David Fincher’s The Social Network won the Golden Globe Award for ‘Best Original Score’ at today’s 68th Golden Globes ceremony. Reznor and Ross beat out the other four nominees Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Hans Zimmer for Inception, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland and A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours. The Award marks the first nomination and win for both Reznor and Ross.
In the ‘Best Original Song’, Dianne Warren won the Golden Globe Award for the song You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me from Burlesque (performed by Cher). Songwriter Warren was nominated five times before, but this marks her first Golden Globe win.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross win Critic’s Choice Award

Last night, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Critic’s Choice Award for their score for David Fincher’s The Social Network. The movie was also awarded the best picture, best director and best adapted screenplay prize. The score beat out the scores for Black Swan (Clint Mansell), Inception (Hans Zimmer), The King’s Speech (Alexandre Desplat) and True Grit (Carter Burwell). The ‘Best Song’ award went to A.R. Ramin Djawadi to score ‘Fright Night’

Ramin Djawadi has been hired to score the upcoming horror film Fright Night. The film is remake of the comedy-horror picture about a teenager who discovers his new next-door neighbor is a vampire. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie, who has previously worked with composers David Torn on Lars and the Real Girl and Theodore Shapiro on Mr. Woodcock. Fright Night stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Please, David Tennant and Toni Collette. Tom Holland’s original 1985 film featured a score by Brad Fiedel. Djawadi himself is no stranger to horror films, having previously scored 2009’s The Unborn. Two new movies open wide this weekend:
The comic book adaptation The Green Hornet is directed by Michel Gondry and stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz and Cameron Diaz. The film’s score is composed by James Newton Howard. While no soundtrack release has been announced, an album is reportedly in the works. In the movie, Britt Reid, heir to his father’s large company, teams up with his late dad’s assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team.
