Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for the documentary Jig. The film’s music is by Patrick Doyle who also has two blockbuster scores coming out this summer (Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Apart from the score, the soundtrack also features the song Now Is Your Time with music written by the composer and performed by his daughter Abigail Doyle. The album will be released on July 12, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Jig is directed and produced by Sue Bourne and tells the story of the 40th Irish Dancing World Championships. Brian Tyler Scoring ‘Brake’

Brian Tyler has recently scored the upcoming indie production Brake. The film is directed by Gabe Torres who previously collaborated with Tyler on the composer’s first feature film Bartender. Nathan West and James Walker are producing and James Mathers (The U.S. vs. John Lennon) is the film’s cinematographer. Not much is known yet about the movie, but production on the film has recently been finished and the project is screening for buyers this month. Michael Giacchino & J.J. Abrams: A Conversation

Yesterday afternoon, Michael Giacchino and J.J. Abrams took part in a discussion of the movie industry and their work together at UCLA’s Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. I Heart Woo has uploaded a video of almost 10 minutes from the event. During the conversation, Giacchino and Abrams talk about the director/composer relationship, the composer’s work on their first collaboration on Alias, as well as their thoughts on the ending of Lost. ‘Breakdown’ Limited Edition Set released

La-La Land Records has released a new limited edition of the soundtrack for the 1997 thriller Breakdown. The film’s music by Basil Poledouris comes in 3-CD set. Disc One features the Final Revised Film Score, Disc Two contains the Alternate Early Film Score and Disc Three contains additional Alternates. Additional music is by Richard Marvin, Eric Colvin, Steve Forman and Judd Miller. The set is limited to 3000 copies and is available to order on La-La Land Records website. Buena Vista Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of Captain America: The First Avenger. The album includes the original score by Alan Silvestri, as well as the original song Star Spangled Man with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by David Zippel. Tim Boland and Sam Retzer Scoring ‘Honey 2’

Tim Boland and Sam Retzer have written the score for the dance film sequel Honey 2. The film is directed by Bille Woodruff who also directed the first part. The movie’s cast includes Katerina Graham (The Vampire Diaries), Randy Wayne, Audrina Patridge, Melissa Molinaro and Lonette McKee who is reprising her role from the first part. The original Honey from 2003 starring Jessica Alba featured a score by Mervyn Warren. Boland and Retzer’s best known film scoring credit is the 2007 street dancing hit movie Stomp the Yard. Honey 2 also features numerous songs from artists including Estelle, La Roux and Far East Movement. ‘Snow Flower and the Secret Fan’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical has revealed the details for the soundtrack release of the upcoming drama Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The album includes 18 tracks from the original score by Rachel Portman. The soundtrack will be released on July 12, 2011 and is now available to pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added soon. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan directed by Wayne Wang is set in 19th century China and centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Super 8 directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Steven Spielberg and staring Elle Fanning, Amanda Michalka, Ron Eldard, Kyle Chandler and Noah Emmerich is opening in most features music composed by Michael Giacchino. As previously announced on this page, Varese Sarabande will be releasing a score album on June 28. Visit MTV Movie Blog for a video interview with Giacchino from the Super 8 premiere and check out a recent article in Variety about the composer’s newest projects. More interviews are expected to appear in the next couple of weeks.
Also opening wide this weekend is the kid’s pic Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer directed by John Schultz and starring Jordana Beatty in the title role, as well as Heather Graham and Jaleel White. Richard Gibbs has written the film’s score. The music was recorded with an 80-piece orchestra at the Newman Scoring Stage on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles. ‘Horrible Bosses’ Soundtrack Coming in July

Watertower Music will be releasing the soundtrack album for the upcoming dark comedy Horrible Bosses. The soundtrack is set to be released digitally on July 5, 2011 and will also be available as a “CD on Demand” on Amazon. The score for Horrible Bosses is composed by Christopher Lennertz. The composer brought together a number of rock/pop musicians to record the score at the legendary Capitol Studios and The Village in Los Angeles. The key musicians included Money Mark (Beastie Boys) on keyboards, Mick McCready (Pearl Jam) and Dave Levita (Eminem) on guitar, Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction) and Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band) on bass, Victor Indrizzo (Beck) on drums and DJ Cheapshot (Fort Minor, Linkin Park) on turntables. Johan Söderqvist to Score ‘The Bald Hairdresser’

Johan Söderqvist confirmed in a recent interview on Spoiler Alert Radio that he is about to reunite with director Susanne Bier on her newest project. The production company Zentropa (via The Playlist) recently revealed a new English title for Bier’s new romantic comedy. The Bald Hairdresser (originally entitled All You Need is Love) stars Pierce Brosnan alongside a number of mostly Danish actors. Anders Thomas Jensen who has been involved in many of Bier’s movies is co-writing the script. Söderqvist has been working with the Danish director for about two decades, most notably on Brothers, After the Wedding and this year’s Academy Award winner in the Best Foreign Language Film category In a Better World. He also collaborated with composer Gustavo Santaolalla on Bier’s English-language debut Things We Lost in the Fire.
