Milan Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the second season of the Syfy series Warehouse 13. The album includes the original score from the show by composer Edward Rogers, including his Emmy-nominated main theme. The soundtrack will be released on August 30, 2011. Varese Sarabande has revealed the details for the soundtrack release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The album features the original score by Patrick Doyle. Deborah Lurie has signed on to score the upcoming animated 3D musical Dorothy of Oz. The movie’s story is an update on The Wizard of Oz and centers on Dorothy Gale who is returning to a tornado-devastated Kansas and then being transported back to Oz to help her friend. The movie’s voice cast includes Lea Michele, Jim Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Kelsey Grammer, Oliver Platt, Martin Short, Megan Hilty and Hugh Dancy. Dorothy of Oz is directed by Dan St. Pierre (Everyone’s Hero). While Lurie is writing the score, the film’s songs are written by Bryan Adams, Tift Merritt and Jim Vallance. Decca Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the action comedy Attack the Block in the US. The soundtrack includes the original score from the film by Steven Price, as well as the songs The Ends by Basement Jaxx and Get That Snitch by Mikis Michaelides. The album has previously only be released overseas and will be coming out stateside on July 26, 2011. The soundtrack will be available to download on Amazon. Mark Isham has recently recorded his score for the upcoming drama The Lucky One. The composer has taken over scoring duties from Hal Lindes who was originally attached to write the music for the film as reported earlier this year. The movie based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Dear John) follows a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq and attributes his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he has never met. He sets out to meet his good-luck charm when he returns to North Carolina. The drama starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner is directed by Scott Hicks (Hearts in Atlantis, The Boys Are Back). Read the rest of this entry »

The release date for the soundtrack has been pushed back two weeks since our last update and is now scheduled to come out on August 9, 2011. Cowboys & Aliens is directed by Jon Favreau and stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Paul Dano and Sam Rockwell. Daniele Luppi is scoring the upcoming Starz series Magic City. The show is set in the 1950’s and centers around mobsters and other colorful characters in Miami Beach. Magic City stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, Jessica Marais, Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, Kelly Lynch, Seymour Cassel and Danny Huston. The project is created by Mitch Glazer (The Recruit, Great Expectations). Dwayne Shattuck (Mad Men) and Ed Bianchi (The Killing, Deadwood) are producing alongside Glazer. Madison Gate Records has announced a score album for the live-action/animated hyrbid film adaptation of The Smurfs. The album includes the original score by composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihuaha). The album will be released on July 26, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. The Smurfs is directed by Raja Gosnell and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara in the primary live-action roles. The film’s voice talent includes Jonathan Winters, George Lopez, Alan Cummings and Katy Perry. The show centers on a group of doctors and nurses from Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and other allied countries saving lives and limbs in a war zone military hospital modeled on a real facility in Afghanistan. Deborah Kara Unger, Michelle Borth, Elias Koteas, Terry Chen, Arnold Pinnock and Luke Mably are starring. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Already beating box office records is the fantasy sequel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The film’s music is composed by Alexandre Desplat who scored his second Harry Potter film. A soundtrack album featuring Desplat’ score has been released on Watertower Music (click here for our soundtrack announcement including audio clips). Also opening wide is Walt Disney Pictures’ animated film Winnie the Pooh. Henry Jackman composed the score for the movie. A soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s score, the film’s songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and an original song by Zooey Deschanel has been released on Walt Disney Records.
