Sony Legacy will be releasing a soundtrack album for the documentary Searching for Sugar Man. The album includes a selection of songs by the film’s title character Rodriguez, which are featured in the movie but originally found on his records Cold Fact and Coming from Reality. The soundtrack will be released on July 24, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Searching for Sugar Man directed by Malik Bendjelloul tells the story of Rodriguez, a 70′s US rock icon whose albums were critically well-received, but never achieved commercial success and faded away into obscurity among rumors of a gruesome death until a record made its way to South Africa, where his music became a phenomenal success. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the film adaptation of the musical Rock of Ages directed by Adam Shankman and starring Juliannne Hough, Diego Bonito, Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin. WaterTower Music has released the official soundtrack featuring film’s cover versions of classic rock songs by Guns N’Roses, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, Reo Speedwagon, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar and Twisted Sister performed by the film’s cast members. Also opening wide is the comedy That’s My Boy directed by Sean Anders & John Morris (Sex Drive) and starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, James Caan, Susan Sarandon, Milo Ventimiglia and Will Forte. Rupert Gregson-Williams has composed the movie’s original score. The composer has been scoring most films produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions over the last couple of years. Lakeshore Records will be releasing a score album for the indie dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The soundtrack features 13 tracks from the film’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen (500 Days of Summer) and Jonathan Sadoff (Good Time Max). The album will be released digitally on June 19, 2012 and will be available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from the score can be checked out after the jump. As previously announced, the label is also releasing a separate soundtrack featuring the film’s songs (click here for the full details and audio clips). Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is directed by Lorene Scafaria and stars Steve Carrell, Keira Knightley, Adam Brody, Connie Briton, Melanie Lynskey, William Peterson, T.J. Alex Heffes has signed on to score the upcoming historical drama Emperor. The film is directed by Peter Webber (The Girl with the Pearl Earring) and stars Matthew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as Japanese actors Eriko Hatsune and Toshiyuki Nishida. The movie is set in post-World War II during the American occupation of Japan and is based on the real-life story of whether Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal. Yoko Narahashi (The Last Samurai), Gary Foster (Daredevil), Russ Krasnoff (The Soloist) and Eugene Nomura are producing the Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment and United Performer’s Studio Production. ‘Crazy Eyes’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the indie comedy Crazy Eyes. The album features the film’s original score composed by Bobby Johnston (Wristcutters: A Love Story, Edmond), as well as the songs featured in the film by artists including Mr. Airplane Man, Stepfather and Lindsay Heath. The soundtrack will be released on July 3, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Crazy Eyes directed by Adam Sherman stars Lukas Haas as a young man obsessed with a girl he calls Crazy Eyes, who is played by Madeline Zima. The film produced by Hagain Shahman co-stars Jake Busey, Ray Wise and Tania Raymonde. The comedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and has been picked up for domestic distribution by Strand Releasing. The movie will be released in select cities on July 6. Explosions in the Sky‘s guitarist Munaf Rayani has announced in an interview with Consequence of Sound (via The Playlist) that the band will be scoring David Gordon Green’s upcoming comedy Prince Avalanche. The site also reveals that composer David Wingo will be providing music for the picture. The comedy starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch is based on the Icelandic movie Either Way directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurosson about two men whose lives intersect while working on a road striping crew together. Green is producing the project with Lisa Muskat, Craig Zobel, James Belfer and Derrick Tseng. Gordon Green has previously used several pieces of Explosion of their Sky’s music in his past films, including 2003′s All the Real Girls and 2007′s Snow Angels, while Wingo has co-scored a number of the director’s project, most recently last year’s The Sitter. The post-rock band has previously ventured into film scoring, most notably on Peter Berg’s Friday Night Lights. Prince Avalanche was shot last month in Texas and is currently in post-production. No word yet on a release date.

The details of the soundtrack album for Seth MacFarlane’s comedy Ted have been revealed. The album features the original score from the film composed by Walter Murphy (Family Guy, American Dad), as well the original song Everybody Needs aa Best Friend performed by Norah Jones. Also included is Queen’s Flash’s Theme (from the 1980 film Flash Gordon), Daphne’s Sin, Norah Jone’s Come Away With Me, Hootie and the Blowfish’s Only Wanna Be With You, Rita Coolidge’s All Time High (from the film Octopussy) and Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now. The soundtrack will be released on June 26, 2012 by Universal Republic and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Click here to listen to audio clips from all tracks on the release. Lalo Schifrin has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 22, 2012.  The concert will present selections of Schifrin’s compositions performed by the Vienna Radio-Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Newman. The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore and John Barry. Schifrin has written over 100 film and television scores including Mission Impossible (including the show’s iconic title theme), Mannix, Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Amityville Horror, Enter The Dragon, four of the Dirty Harry films and the Rush Hour trilogy. Throughout his career, the composer has won five Grammy Awards (twenty-two nominations) and received six Academy Award nominations. Ramin Djawadi has been hired to score the live-action family film African Safari 3D. The movie diredted by Ben Stassen follows an expedition from the “Skeleton” coast in Namibia all the way to the top of Kiliminjaro. Stassen is producing the film with Eric Dillen for his Belgium-based production company nWave Pictures. The project marks Stassen’s first live-action feature project. Djawadi has previously composed the music for numerous nWave films, including the animated features Fly me to the Moon 3D, 2010’s A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures and the upcoming Sammy’s Adventures 2, which is set to be released in several European markets this summer.
