The film is directed by Carl Deal & Tia Lessin and examines the mushrooming struggle between money and democracy through the dramatic lens of the 2011 standoff in Wisconsin when Governor Scott Walker, bankrolled by out-of-state billionaires, stripped state employees of their union rights. Deal and Lessin are also producing the Elsewhere Films production with Gillian Caldwell. jimdooleyJim Dooley has signed on to score the noir thriller 10 Cent Pistol. The film is written and directed by Michael C. Martin and stars Jena Malone, JT Alexander, Damon Alexander, Joe Mantegna, Adam Arkin, Jessica Szohr, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Emilio Rivera and Haylie Duff. The movie tells the story of two brothers and lifelong criminals who maneuver through the shady underbelly of Los Angeles and a struggling actress who gets caught up in the brothers’ crimes. JT and Damon Alexander are also producing the Route 17 Entertainment production with Matt Tauber and Andy Hyde. The project marks the directorial debut of Martin who has written the screenplay for the 2009 thriller Brooklyn’s Finest starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke. Will Bates is scoring the upcoming documentary We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks. The film is helmed by Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Freakonomics) and explores the people and events behind the upstart website that rocked the U.S. government, ushered in a new era of transparency and ignited an information war. Gibney is producing the movie with Marc Shmuger (Dead of Winter) and Alexis Bloom. The soundtrack will be released on February 5, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full album details, including cover art and track list will be revealed in a couple of weeks. Beautiful Creatures is directed by Richard LaGravenese and stars Alden Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum, Thomas Mann and Emma Thompson. Ryan Miller Scoring ‘Toy’s House’

Ryan Miller is the composer of the upcoming indie comedy Toy’s House. The film is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and stars Nick Robinson (Melissa and Joey), Gabriel Basso (The Big C) and Moises Arias (Hannah Montana) as three unhappy teenage boys who flee to the wilderness where they build a makeshift house and live off the land as masters of their own destiny. Alison Brie, Erin Moriarty, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman are co-starring. The movie is written by Chris Galletta and produced by Peter Saraf (Little Miss Sunshine), John Hodges and Tyler Davidson (Take Shelter) for  Big Beach Films and Low Spark Films. Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012)

Richard Rodney Bennett has passed at age 76 on Christmas Eve in New York. The composer was born in 1936 and raised in Budleigh Salterton, Devon. Throughout his career, he has received three Academy Award nominations for his scores for John Schlesinger’s 1967 drama Far from the Madding Crowd starring Julie Christie & Terence Stamp, the 1971 historical drama Nicholas and Alexandra directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and Sidney Lumet’s 1974 mystery drama Murder on the Orient Express based on the novel by Agatha Christie. He also received two Grammy Award nominations for the latter two films. He was also honored with numerous BAFTA nominations and won the award for Murder on the Orient Express. His other film credits include John Schlesinger’s Yanks starring Richard Gere, Sidney Lumet’s Equus starring Richard Burton, the romantic comedy Indiscreet starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman and the 1994 hit comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral directed by Mike Newell and starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. Nick Urata has composed the music for the indie comedy A.C.O.D.. The film is directed by Stuart Zicherman (writer of Elektra) and stars Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O’Hara, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jane Lynch, Ken Howard and Clark Duke. The movie follows a man who learns he was enlisted in a study about divorced children many years ago and is ushered into a present-day follow-up study. Zicherman has also co-written the screenplay with Ben Karlin. Karlin has produced the Black Bear Pictures production with Teddy Schwarzman (Broken CityAt Any Price) and Tim Perell (Last Chance Harvey). Fernando Velazquez has been tapped to score the family fantasy adventure Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box. The film is based on the novel by G.P. Taylor and stars Aneurin Barnard as a 17-year-old boy in Victorian England who is searching for his lost parents and kidnapped with his younger brother in a mysterious luxury hotel filled with villains, child-snatching creatures and a box which turns ordinary objects into gold. Michael Sheen, Lena Headey, Sam Neill, Keeley Hawes and Ioan Gruffudd are also starring. Jonathan Newman (Swinging with the Finkels)  is directing the film and Gavin Scott (Small Soldiers), Rob Sprackling & John Smith (Gnomeo & Juliet) have adapted the teen adventure novel for the screen. Peter Bevan & Karl Richards are producing for Entertainment Motion Pictures in association with Ibon Cormenzana & Ignasi Estape (Hawthorne) for Spain’s Arcadia Motion Pictures. A number of lengthy video interviews with some of the composers who are considered major contenders this awards season have recently been published. David Poland from Movie City News has conducted interviews with three composers, including Mychael Danna who scored Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, Alexandre Deplat who has a number of titles in the race (Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Rise of the Guardians), as well as Thomas Newman who is joined by director John Madden of The Best Exotic Marigold and also has his music for Skyfall in contention. Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the action sequel A Good Day to Die Hard. The album features the film’s original score composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream) who previously scored the previous installment in the Die Hard series, Live Free or Die Hard. The soundtrack will be released on February 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The full album details, including track list and cover art are expected to be revealed in early 2013.
