Jeff Toyne is scoring DIRECTV’s first original series Rogue. The drama is created by Matthew Parkhill (The Caller) and stars Thandie Newton as a morally and emotionally-conflicted undercover detective who is tormented by the possibility that her own actions contributed to her son’s death. Marton Csokas, Ian Hart, Claudia Ferri, Joshua Sasse, Jonathan Holmes, Sarah Jeffrey, Ian Tracey, Jarod Joseph, Matthew Beard and Martin Donovan are co-starring. Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire) has directed the first episode. Nick Hamm (The Hole, Godsend, Killing Bono) is executive producing the project for Greenroom Entertainment, alongside John Morayniss and Michael Rosenberg for eOne and Steven Marrs. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone directed by Don Scardino and starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jay Mohr and Michael Bully Herbig. The film’s original music is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the thriller The Call directed by Brad Anderson, Abigail Breslin, Michael Eklund, Justina Machado, Morris Chestnut, David Otunga and Michael Imperioli. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Debney’s music earlier this week. ‘Wadjda’ Soundtrack Details

Milan France has released a soundtrack album for drama Wadjda. The album features the film’s original music composed by Max Richter (Waltz with Bashir, Perfect Sense). The soundtrack is now available in France. No word yet on a domestic release. Click here to listen to audio clips. Wadjda written and directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour is the first feature film shot entirely in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The movie follows a 10-year old girl who challenges deep-rooted Saudi traditions in a determined quest to buy a bicycle. When everything goes against her plans, she sees one last chance in her school’s Koran recitation competition and the large cash prize for first place. The movie premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is now playing in several European territories. Thomas Newman to Score Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’

Thomas Newman revealed at a recent event at Le Moyne and Syracuse University as part of their Film Talk Series (via The Dolphin) that he will be reteaming with Pixar on next year’s animated feature The Good Dinosaur. The movie is directed by Bob Peterson and is set in a world where the cataclysmic asteroid that changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct. Pixar and Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter and John Walker (The Incredibles) are producing the film. Peterson previously co-directed Pixar’s Up, which featured an Academy Award-winning score by Michael Giacchino. Newman has previously scored two animated films for Pixar, Finding Nemo and Wall-E, both directed by Andrew Stanton. Read the rest of this entry »
‘Admission’ Soundtrack Announced

Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for Paul Weitz’s comedy Admission. The album features the film’s original music composed by Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) who previously collaborated with the director on In Good Company, American Dreamz, Cirque du Freak and Little Fockers. Relativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album for the action thriller Olympus Has Fallen. The album features the film’s original music composed by Trevor Morris (Immortals, The Tudors, The Borgias). Brian Tyler has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming heist thriller Now You See Me. The movie is helmed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Transporter) and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Michael Kelly, Dave Franco and Common. The thriller pits an elite FBI squad in a game of cat and mouse against “The Four Horsemen,” a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists. Boaz Yakin & Edward Ricour have written the screenplay and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci are producing the project. The details of the soundtrack album for Rob Zombie’s horror film The Lords of Salem have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by John 5 & Griffin Boyce, as well as the songs from the film by artists including Manfred Mann, Leviathan The Fleeing Serpent, Rick James, Rush and The Velvet Underground. The soundtrack will be released on April 16, 2013 by Universal Music Group and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Lords of Salem is written and directed by Zombie and stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davidson, Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, Ken Foree, Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace, Maria Conchita Alonso, Judy Geeson, Meg Foster and Griffin Boice. The movie follows a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, which triggers flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Matthew Margeson Scoring ‘Kick-Ass 2’

According to the film’s new trailer, Matthew Margeson is scoring the upcoming superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2. The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down, Cry Wolf) and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse who all return from the 2010 original film and are joined by Jim Carrey who portays Sal Bertolinni aka Colonel Stars and Stripes. Donald Faison, Clark Duke, John Leguizamo and Morris Chestnut are co-starring. Wadlow has also written the screenplay based on the characters from the comic book Hit-Girl by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. Matthew Vaughn who directed the first part is producing the Marv Films and Plan B production with Brad Pitt, Adam Bohling (Layer Cake), Targquin Pack and David Reid. The project will marks Margeson’s second major studio release following 2010’s Skyline. He previously served as an additional music arranger on the first Kick-Ass installment (which featured music by Henry Jackman, John Murphy, Ilan Eshkeri and Marius De Vries) and has written additional music for numerous films scored by Jackman.
