Two new movies are opening this weekend:

interstellarAlready playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday and opening nationwide today is the sci-fi drama Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator). WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in two different editions on November 18. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. big-hero-6Also opening wide is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ feature Big Hero 6 directed by Don Hall & Chris Williams and featuring the voices of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, T.J. Miller, Jaime Chung, Damon Wayans, Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, James Cromwell, Maya Rudolph Daniel Henney and Alan Tudyk. Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Immortals by Fall Out Boy. Click here for the full album details. ‘Supernatural’ Musical Episode ‘Fan Fiction’ to Feature Songs by Christopher Lennertz & Jay Gruska

supernaturalChristopher Lennertz and Jay Gruska have composed the original songs for the 200th episode of The CW hit series Supernatural. The special musical episode entitled Fan Fiction follows Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they investigate the disappearance of a high school teacher and are stunned to discover that the school is putting on a musical based on their lives. One of the show’s writers Robert Thompson wrote the lyrics to accompany the composers’ music. Original songs include The Boys Investigate, Supernatural, A Single Man Tear, The Road So Far, I’ll Just Wait Here Then, and an a cappella version of Carry on My Wayward Son. The Newton Brothers to Score ‘The Runner’

the-newton-brothersThe Newton Brothers have been hired to score the upcoming political drama The Runner. The film marks the directorial debut of Austin Stark and stars Nicolas Cage, Sarah Paulson, Connie Nielsen, Peter Fonda, Bryan Batt and Wendell Pierce. The movie takes place in the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill and follows a idealistic but flawed congressman who is forced to confront his dysfunctional life after his career is destroyed in a sex scandal. Stark has also written the screenplay. Benji Kohn, Bingo Gubelmann & Chris Papavasiliou (Happythankyoumoreplease) and Erika Hampson (Mall) are producing the project for Paper Street Films, alongside Glenn Williamson (The Omen, Sunshine Cleaning, Push) for Back Lot Pictures. ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Soundtrack Preview

battle-of-the-five-armiesAudio clips of the soundtrack album for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies have been published online. The film’s music is composed by Howard Shore who previously scored the first two movies in the series, as well as The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Visit the British Amazon store to listen to audio clips. The website also confirms the running time of each track and the extended versions of the tracks featured on the deluxe edition. Both versions of the soundtrack will be released domestically on December 16 by WaterTower Music and are available for pre-order on Amazon (standard edition) and here (deluxe edition). The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Orlando Bloom, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt and Hugo Weaving will be released on December 17, 2014 by Warner Bros. The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor and stars Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewan McGregor, Rodrigo Santoro, Boyd Holbrook and Noah Emmerich. The movie follows a woman who asks an ex for help to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him. Portman is also producing the project for her Handsomecharlie Films company, alongside Scott Steindorff (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Human Stain), Aleen Keshishian, Terry Dougas, Scott LaStaiti and Regency Boies. Soundtrack for NBC’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ to Be Released

rosemarys-babyVarese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the NBC mini-series Rosemary’s Baby. The album features the two-parter’s original music composed by Antoni Komasa-Lazarkiewicz who previously collaborated with the project’s director Agnieszka Holland on In Darkness and HBO’s Burning Bush. The album features the songs from the film by artists including The Clash, Katy Perry, Pitbull, The Heavy, Timbaland, NWA, Toto and more. Also included are three tracks from the movie’s original score composed by Christopher Lennertz (Identity Thief, Revolution, Ride Along) who previously scored the first part of the series. The soundtrack will be released on November 25, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded below. Horrible Bosses 2 is directed by Sean Anders and stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz. Jason Moran Scoring Ava DuVernay’s ‘Selma’

selmaJason Moran is currently recording his orchestral score for the upcoming biographical drama Selma in Seattle. The project marks the first scoring assignment of the jazz pianist who is also the artistic director for music at the Kennedy Center. Selma is directed by Ava DuVernay and stars David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King and Tom Wilkinson as Lyndon Baines Johnson. Andre Holland, Tessa Thompson, Omar J. Dorsey and Colman Domingo are co-starring. The movie tells the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s struggle to secure voting rights for all people that culminated with a march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. ‘Hector and the Search for Happiness’ Soundtrack Details
