Varese Sarabande will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black created by Jenji Kohan and starring Taylor Schilling. The album will feature the selections from the show’s original score composed by Gwendolyn Sanford, Brandon Jay and Scott Doherty. The soundtrack is set to be released on May 12, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label will also release the first soundtrack album for the BBC America original series Orphan Black created by Graeme Manson & John Fawcett and starring Tatiana Maslan. It was announced today that James Newton Howard is the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert Gala at Vienna Concert Hall on October 16, 2015 The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Randy Newman, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Howard has written numerous scores for films such as The Sixth Sense, Signs, King Kong, Maleficent, Pretty Woman, Waterworld, The Prince of Tides, The Village, The Fugitive, Dinosaur, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Hunger Games series. Lorne Balfe has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming sci-fi action movie Terminator Genisys. Hans Zimmer will serve as the executive music producer according to the film’s new international poster. The film is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones) and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith, Lee Byung-hun, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, Sandrine Holt and J. K. Simmons. The movie follows John Connor as he sends Sgt. Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor and safeguard the future and finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past.. Rachel Portman has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original movie Bessie. The film is directed by Dee Rees (Pariah) and stars Queen Latifah, Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter, Tory Kittles, Oliver Platt, Bryan Greenberg, Charles S. Dutton and Mo’Nique. The movie tells the story of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith and her transformation from a struggling young singer into “The Empress of the Blues,” one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s and an enduring icon today. Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack featuring the world premiere release of two original scores composed and conducted by Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible, Enter the Dragon, Rush Hour, The Amityville Horror). The album features the composer’s complete score for the 1967 The President’s Analyst directed by Theodore J. Flicke and starring James Coburn. Also included is Schrifrin’s music for the 1974 thriller Man on a Swing directed by Frank Perry and starring Cliff Robertson and Joel Grey. Fil Eisler revealed in a recent interview with Buddy TV that he is set to score the upcoming ABC drama pilot Kingmakers. The show is created by Sallie Patrick (Revenge) and stars Gus Halper, Adrian Pasdar, Will Flaherty and Kristin Bauer van Straten. The drama follows a young man whose sister is found dead during her freshman year at an elite Ivy League university and adopts a new identity to infiltrate the school and its century-old secret society in order to investigate her death.
