Deadline is reporting that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be teaming up to write the music for a live action feature adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The movie version is also said to feature songs from Disney’s classic animated movie, for which Menken won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (with Howard Ashman) and Best Original Score. Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Wanted, Legally Blonde, Bridge of Spies) who is also on board of Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins Returns will be producing the project. The film marks the directorial debut of producer Mark Williams (Flawless) and stars Gerard Butler, Alison Brie, Willem Dafoe, Gretchen Mol and Alfred Molina. The movie follows a ruthless corporate headhunter who battles his rival for control of their job placement company, until a family tragedy brings his personal and professional lives into conflict. Bill Dubuque (The Judge) has written the screenplay. Ode Records will release a soundtrack album for the Fox television event The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The album features the songs from the two-hour re-imagining of the original movie performed by the film’s cast and written by Richard O’Brien. The soundtrack will be released on October 21, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is directed by Kenny Ortega (This Is It, High School Musical) and stars Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Adam Lambert, Ben Vereen, Christina Milian and Tim Curry. The movie executive produced by Ortega, Lou Adler and Gail Berman is a remake of the 1975 cult classic and follows sweethearts Janet and Brd who stumble upon Dr. Frank-n-Furter’s bizarre abode.
