2018 World Soundtrack Awards Composer of the Year Nominations Announced

The World Soundtrack Academy has announced the first wave of nominees for the 2018 World Soundtrack Awards in the categories Film Composer of the Year, Best TV Composer and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The winners will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards & concert on Wednesday, October 17 at the Ghent International Film Festival. As previously reported, Philippe Sarde will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event. Here are the nominations:

‘Operation Finale’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the historical thriller Operation Finale. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, The Queen, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Premiering on Friday, August 17, is the new Netflix original series Disenchantment created by Matt Groening and featuring the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, Eric Andre, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery. The show’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, Hotel Transylvania). EuropaCorp will release a soundtrack album for the action thriller Renegades. The album features the film’s original music composed by Eric Serra (The Fifth Element, Goldeneye, Lucy, The Big Blue, Leon: The Professional, La Femme Nikita). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 24, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Renegades is directed by Steven Quale and stars Sullivan Stapleton, Charlie Bewley, Alain Blazevic, Sylvia Hoeks, Joshua Henry, Andrej Dojkic, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dimitri Leonidas, Clemens Schick, Ewen Bremner and J. K. Simmons. The movie produced and co-written by Luc Besson centers on a group of Navy SEALs who attempt to solve a long-forgotten mystery while they uncover an immense treasure hidden in a lake in war-torn Serbia. Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the shark thriller The Meg directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy, Robert Taylor and Sophia Shuya Cai. The film’s original music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, The Martian, Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire). Also opening wide is the supernatural horror thriller Slender Man directed by Sylvain White and starring Joey King, Julia Goldani-Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso and Javier Botet. Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans) and Brandon Campbell (The Thinning) have composed the film’s original score. ‘Deadpool 2’ – Super Duper Cut Soundtrack Album Released

Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album for the Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut, which includes 15 minutes of additional footage not included in the theatrical version of the film. The album features the content of the original soundtrack album for the movie, as well as six additional tracks, including The Osborne Brothers’ Love Hurts, Guignol & Mischief Brew’s Fight Dirty, Steve Miller Band’s Fly Like an Eagle, Jordan Smith’s performance of Ashes, Teamheadkick’s Deadpool Rap (X-Force Remix), and a track from Tyler Bates’ score. Searching is co-written and directed by Aneesh Chaganty and stars John Cho, Debra Messing, Joseph Lee and Michelle La. The movie centers on a desperate father searching for his missing teenage daughter. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s third season composed by Emmy Award winner Mac Quayle (American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Feud: Bette and Joan, Pose). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 17, 2018 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released four soundtrack albums featuring the composer’s music from the first two seasons.
